Paul Tagliabue formerly the NFL Commissioner writes that this book provides a unique insider's perspective on NFL and college football the profound impact of deep friendships outreach across cultures and religions and dozens of other key subjects. Chad Wayne Lewis born October 5 1971 is a former American football tight end in the National Football League NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams. After walking on at Brigham Young University BYU Lewis finished his collegiate career with 111 receptions for 1376 yards and ten touchdowns. As a junior he was an All-WAC first-team choice and a UPI All-American honorable mention. Lewis signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997. After playing 1 year and two games with the Eagles he was signed by the St. Louis Rams for one season. Lewis was released 10 weeks into the season before the Rams won a Super Bowl title in the 1999 Super Bowl XXXIV over the Tennessee Titans. Lewis was re-signed by the Eagles and caught the game-clinching touchdown pass in the 2005 NFC Championship game. However during this reception Lewis suffered a serious foot injury that kept him out of the Super Bowl XXXIX loss to the New England Patriots. In 2002 the NFL sent Lewis to Taiwan Singapore and Thailand to promote the league. Since then he has visited China several times to give interviews and help with football clinics. He has also spoken at the Fourth of July celebration in China. In 2009 Lewis released a memoir Surround Yourself With Greatness and in 2010 he returned to BYU as an Associate Athletic Director. Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Chad Lewis says that every good thing in his life is a direct result of his family and his faith. Surround Yourself with Greatness takes readers around the world while looking through the eyes mind and heart of Chad Lewis - a once freckle-faced four-eyed skinny teenager who at an early age wrote in his journal "My goal and quest is to surround myself with greatness . . . only greatness will penetrate the walls of my heart." Within these soul-searching character-framing chapters we meet extraordinary people - coaches teammates friends and family - and learn what a profound influence we have on each other's lives. From the miraculous near-death experience of his father to the life-changing events in Taiwan as a missionary to the brutal football training camps and his nine-year career in the NFL Chad takes us on a path to our own self-discovery as he shares his secrets to happiness and what it means to surround yourself with greatness. "We live in a world of relationships that are dynamic. We need each other. We need to choose with conscious awareness to open our eyes heart and mind to the great people who elevate life that are all around us.". Shadow Mountain hardcover
