The other of Boyle shall be worked into 2nd Edition which Murray publisher is beginni9ng to be talking: he has already sold between 17 & 1800 copies: so let none say that the age of miracles is past I could have wished for a longer interval in order to read some subjects up rather closer. & finish off others. I have a floating notion a chateau en Espagne of doing an obra grande on 'Spain & Spaniards past & present' which should run 4 vols 8o. & be a library book at least in type & illustrations: for I have portfolios full of drawings made in interesting & seldom visited localities: all the pure Starkerec book ref route details etc would be left out & the spaces filled with efragion cosas de Espana from cigars to to Cervantes; this however is an ouvrage de logue haleine & probably will never be executed to the serious detriment of men who live word not deciphered. Now you & Head must be praying for a change of Ministry! 'Sir James Graham! the Lord deliver us from Sir James Graham'! as Cromwell said of Ld. 1814Best.-Nr. 728671814. Piacenza: Dai Tipi d'Ignazio Orcesi 1814. Piacenza: Dai Tipi d'Ignazio Orcesi 1814. Rare Printing of the Short-Lived but Influential Constitution of 1812 Spain. Constitution. Costituzione Politica della Monarchia Spagnuola Promulgata in Cadice il 19 Marzo 1812. Piacenza: Dai Tipi d'Ignazio Orcesi 1814. 72 pp. Octavo 6" x 4". Stab-stitched pamphlet bound into recent paper-covered boards lettering piece to spine. Moderate toning negligible faint dampstaining to head of text block and upper outside corners in a few places. $650. Very rare Piacenza printing based on the translation that had appeared in Milan in the same year of the short-lived but influential Spanish constitution of 1812 one of the first attempts to construct a codified constitutional monarchy which applied not only to Spain but to the Spanish holdings in South America and the Philippines and gave Spanish citizenship to the natives of any territory that belonged to the Spanish monarchy but not necessarily those of African descent who could acquire citizenship through naturalization. This constitution was driven by the need to give legitimacy to the newly installed Joseph Bonaparte as king. Although it was repealed shortly after the restoration in 1814 of Ferdinand VII its influence was widespread. It was the model for the constitutions of Norway in 1814 and Mexico in 1824. A number of Italian printings appeared in several varying translations between 1812 and 1814. Our Piacenza printing is one of the rarest. OCLC locates 1 copy University of Turin Italy. unknown

From November 9 to December 12 1970 the Interzonal Qualifying Chess Tournament for the Candidates Cycle took place in the splendid city of Palma de Mallorca in Spain which in eliminatory matches would consecrate the challenger of the World Champion Boris Spassky. The expectation generated by the Interzonal competition in the chess world was mainly centered on the participation in the event of the North American Grandmaster Robert Bobby Fischer who came to the tournament as a favorite after his recent huge performances in the tournaments Zagreb who won with a 2-point difference and Buenos Aires won with a difference of. 3.5! in which he showed an enormous superiority against rivals such as Gligoric Smyslov Kortchnoi Panno and Petrosian just to name a few. For many connoisseurs the Fischer phenomenon had exploded confirming the laurels he had already achieved since his times as a child prodigy and it only remained to know if his somewhat unstable character would not play a trick on him in Palma. Hardcover. fair. 16mo. 230 2 277 1 4 146pp. Original full calf with gold lettering on spine. All edges red. Marbled endpapers. Fascinating work on the trial of Dominican Froilan de Llanos who was the official confessor of Charles II of Spain. Fray Froylan Diaz de Llanos was convinced that the king's poor health was a result of a spell cast on him. In 1698-1699 under the Head Inquisitor Juan Tomas de Rocaberti's supervision he performed a series of exorcisms over the king after which he stated that Charles II was indeed under the influence of evil forces for which various persons from the royal court were responsible among others Queen Maria Anna of Neuburg. When the queen found out about the accusations against her Froylan Diaz de Llanos was dismissed from the post of royal confessor and transferred to the diocese of the city of Avila and subsequently arrested by the Tribunal of the Inquisition on charges of heresy. Some age wear on binding with rubbing on spine and along edges. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Binding in overall good- to good interior in very good condition.
