Bella edizione, la prima risale al 1768 - 69. Analisi di grande interesse sui coustumi e le origini delle popolazioni americane, ma anche sulla storia naturale, la geologia, i prodotti. Nel complesso De Pauw attribuisce alle popolazioni americane inferiori capacita' e sviluppo rispetto alle altre etnie. Pernety tendeva invece alla confutazione di queste teorie. Le teorie di questo erudito olandese partono da alcune osservazioni del Buffon che parlando del continente americano, aveva attribuito alle specie, sia animali che umane, uno stato di inferiorita' rispetto a quelle degli altri continenti, De Pauw quindi insiste particolarmente sull'impotenza sessuale degli americani soffermandosi particolarmente su molte aberrazioni.
