1960ref. 30983New York: Atheneum. Near Fine in Very Good dj. First Edition. Hardcover. no significant wear to book just a touch of fading to the cloth along the top edges of the covers; the jacket is lightly tanned at the spine with a bit of wear along the top edge and some very shallow chipping at the top of the spine. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the half-title page: "For Peggy & Norman / with love / Joan / Jan. 1962." The author's first and only novel whose central figure is a millionaire who was "cranky neurotic warm possessive prejudiced and generous. He was a discriminating collector and patron of art an epicure a devotee of psychoanalysis -- as well as an almost lifelong patient. He worshipped his beautiful wife but was never able to achieve the full reciprocal relationship with her that he dreamed of. He cherished but endlessly frustrated his four daughters. He antagonized most of his fellow trustees at the New York museum to which he had given so much yet the one he annoyed the most wept at his funeral." While one can't help but wonder -- especially when an author expends and seemingly exhausts his or her talent on a single novel and then goes silent -- whether the book has autobiographical underpinnings I've been unable to uncover enough information about the author apart from what's in her rear-jacket-flap biography to determine whether or not there was a real-life father behind the fictional figure of "Saul Bettelheim" in this book. The inscribees were actor/producer/director Norman Lloyd 1914-2021 and his wife; Lloyd is probably most widely known for his late-in-life role as "Dr. Auschlander" on the "St. Elsewhere" TV series but was active in the theatre television and movies from the 1930s until the 2000s and numbered many of the Hollywood elite among his friends and colleagues. Signed by Author . 1960. Atheneum hardcover books

The Granary the gallery in which The Distaff Side is displayed is but an extension of our home allowing us to keep our collection close by and to visit it and enjoy it in moments of "mutual" solitude. This exhibition is Melva's homage to her sisters in art. It is a very personal message a statement of celebrations and of respect for their artistic achievement and it reflects a shared lifetime of collecting their wondrous work." FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- Text in English. 168 pp. With 68 ills. 8 col. . 22 x 15 cm. -- with a bonus offer--; This book celebrates the achievements of Alice Guy Blaché 1873–1968 the first woman motion picture director and producer. From 1896 to 1907 she created films for Gaumont in Paris. In 1907 she moved to the United States and established her own film company Solax. From 1914 to 1920 Guy Blaché was an independent director for a number of film companies. Despite her immensely productive and creative career Guy Blaché’s indispensable contribution to film history has been overlooked. She entered the world of filmmaking at its nascent stage when films were seen primarily as a medium in the service of science or as an adjunct to selling cameras. Working with Gaumont cameramen and cameras and the new technical advances for the projection of film she became one of the film pioneers ushering in the new era of motion pictures as a narrative form. Written by cinema history experts and curators this handsome volume brings to light a critical new mass of Guy Blaché’s film oeuvre in an effort to restore her to her rightful place in film history. . 2009. 0300152507 .
