ref. 51-6257Paris: circa 1907. Original drawing for a poster or publication.before the text. Two marginal tears with loss.40 x 30.7 cm. » Benoît XVIExpertise by: Elvire Poulain-Marquis Cabinet Poulain Paris.Pharmacist and politician Savignol was also highly appreciated for his caricatures. He collaborated on the most important journals in this genre at the beginning of the 20th century such as Le Rire Le Sourire Les Galonnés etc. and also L'Assiette au Beurre for which from 1907 he created the character of César Tripet a disrespectful and humorous vagabond. The creation of this character earned him great admiration particularly from Nadar who became one of his great friends. Paris: circa 1907 unknown

Greenleaf to Capt. Browne: Sir Having consulted with Mr. Abbot respecting the suit commenced by Mr. Lakeman against Mr. Gray we think it for the interests of Mr. Gray to refer all demands between them to arbitrators if suitable men can be agreed upon. If not it will be expedient to commence in the Circuit Court of the United States a class action on Mr. Grays demands against Mr. Lakeman hat both actions may proceed with equal pace & be determined at the same time The Court will probably appoint auditors to state the accounts between the parties but I think it doubtful whether gentlemen living out of this District will be appointed without mutual consents. At this time Simon Greenleaf was a court reporter of the Maine Supreme Court a position he would serve in from 1820 to 1832. The letter is in fine condition with some minor folds. unknown

Kartlis Tskhovreba The Georgian Chronicles: The "Queen Anna" Manuscript / prepared for publication by the Philology Department edited by Simon Kaukhchishvili ; with a foreword and study by Ivane Javakhishvili and Simon Kaukhchishvili ; Georgian SSR Academy of Sciences Institute of History. Tbilisi: Publishing House of the Georgian SSR Academy of Sciences 1942 printed at the same Academy's press. LXXXIII 1 315 pp. with several photographic facsimile plates of manuscript leaves ; 22 cm. Series: Original Sources of Georgian History. A. Historians. Submitted to production and signed for printing 28 November 1942. Print run of 2000 copies. First edition. Publisher's original cloth binding dark maroon spine cream paper-covered boards. Binding good: wear to corners and spine ends; spotting to front board staining to rear board. Text block good: firm complete plates preserved. A foundational monument of Georgian medieval historiography: the first published critical edition of the oldest known manuscript witness of Kartlis Tskhovreba The Georgian Chronicles the core compilation of Georgia's medieval national historical tradition. The manuscript itself known as the "Anna" copy after Queen Anna of Kakheti wife of King Alexander I who commissioned it around 1479-1495 was discovered in 1913 by the historian Ivane Javakhishvili in the family library of the Jambakur-Orbeliani house in the village of Lamiskana — the oldest surviving witness to the Kartlis Tskhovreba textual tradition predating the better-known "Queen Mariam" manuscript published by Ekvtime Taqaishvili in 1906. The Anna manuscript uniquely preserves a chronicle of the reign of Lasha-Giorgi found in no other surviving copy published here in full for the first time. The present edition prepared by the Institute of History's Philology Department under Simon Kaukhchishvili 1901-1970 reproduces the complete text together with Javakhishvili's original 1913 study an extensive new introduction on the manuscript's textual history a name index and several tipped-in photographic facsimile plates of manuscript leaves. This 1942 volume directly preceded and underpinned Kaukhchishvili's landmark two-volume critical edition of the full Kartlis Tskhovreba corpus 1955 and 1959 which remains the standard scholarly text to this day; the present wartime edition issued in a modest run of 2000 copies under difficult printing conditions represents the indispensable first publication of this particular manuscript witness and a cornerstone reference for any serious library of Georgian medieval studies Caucasian historiography or Kartvelology.
