Issued in English by the International Publicity League of Korea for overseas distribution these richly illustrated annuals rank among the earliest comprehensive visual presentations of the Republic of Korea during the Korean War and its immediate aftermath. Produced first in wartime Pusan and later in Seoul following the government's return to the capital they chronicle the nation's transformation from active battlefield to reconstruction. Subjects include the United Nations campaign military operations refugees reconstruction diplomacy economic recovery industry education transportation culture photography performing arts architecture traditional customs and national history alongside extensive documentary photography and contemporary advertising. Particularly notable are sections devoted to the armistice negotiations the newly established Demilitarized Zone postwar currency reform reconstruction of Seoul and the Republic's early efforts to present itself to the Western world during the opening years of the Cold War. The three volumes together represent three of the earliest English-language editions in the series and form an uncommon documentary record of modern Korea's formative years. .
