Portuguese text; Hardcover yellow cloth without dust jacket; 25 x 34.5 cm; 1.2 kg.; 121 pages with colours illustrations and descriptions by Eduardo Malta.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior and interior. The exterior shows minor wear marks edge wear scuffs and scratches. Tiny scratch on the right side of the front cover cloth. Minor signs of wear on the interior.; Published in 1994 this is a reduced size facsimile of the 1956 original edition.; "The first edition of the book only 700 copies 350 in Portuguese and 350 in English was printed in 1956 and rapidly sold out. Today it is an extremely expensive collector's item. Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva expressly invited as co-authors of the book the American expert Lloyd Hyde and his friend the painter Eduardo Malta who was responsible for the illustrations. He was a connoisseur and important collector of Companhia das Índias porcelain and quite knowledgeable in History of Portugal and of its decorative arts. He was probably driven to write and publish the book because the Portuguese were the first people in Europe who became interested in China porcelain. In fact they ordered the products by sending the blue- prints of the motives that they wanted depicted thus initiating a trade that would later expand worldwide when they were joined by other European nations." excerpt from the introductory text.
