When Ran Constantine was assigned to investigate, Dina was prepared for a fight--not for the passion that surged between them. But neither could forget the real reason he had entered her life. The only solution was to clear her name, and so they followed the clues that led them to Greece. 1966In THE TROJANS, Mr. Williams turns his pereptive eye and ear to the only real fantasy land in existence - the world of motion pictures. We are shown a business that is nothing like a business, an organization that sells images, physical and mental. Careers and, ultimately, lives hinge on the return of superstar Margaret Dayton to the Greek island location of the multi-million dollar epic, Helen of Troy. Those most affected ponder the reasons for her disappearance and, in so doing, become involved in a reevaluation of their own lives. These lives together form a network of human experience that starts with the motion picture world but goes far beyond it. Grover Brand, the cerebral author who constantly dissects motives, acts, and consequences, must ponder the validity of his relationship with Margaret. Did he become her husband because he loved her, or did he marry her for the book he felt he could wring from such an alliance? Sidney Tate, the president of Globe Pictures, once a feared and respected surgeon for ailing corporations, finds himself and his business failing with the only hope for survival dependent upon Margaret's return. Octavia Dayton nurtures a promiscuity which does not exclude her daughter's lovers. Nelson Glassgow, Margaret's agent, has an Interest in both Dayton women which produces a schism between Margaret and Octavia. Howard Sills, once the young genius of the motion picture industry, must try to recoup his loss of prestige as a producer with Helen of Troy. Mace Garret, Margaret's costar and an erstwhile boxer turned amorous actor, must contend with his greatest opponent - his own body. Each character is a masterpiece of insight. It is this fluid and sentient writing which will involve the reader in their lives ...and the massive range of experience they represent. Book
1977Covers period up to 1976. "Modern Greece tells the story of Greece and its people, from the founding of Constantinople to the eclipse of socialism in the late twentieth century. C. M. Woodhouse is uniquely qualified to write the history of Greece, having served there in the Allied military and the British embassy during and after World War II before writing several books on Greece. In this classic work, which Woodhouse has updated five times to create a truly comprehensive history, the depth of his knowledge and understanding of the country and its citizens comes through clearly in every chapter, as he ranges from the ascendancy and eventual fall of the Byzantine Empire through the emergence for the first time of a unified Greek kingdom in the 1800s to the political turmoil of twentieth-century politics. This is a book for readers and travelers who wish to understand the history and culture behind the beauty that is eternal Greece." 352p. bibliography.index Book

1967When the Athenians took the island of Sphacteria, there was one among the Spartans, a youth name Ariston, who would not surrender, who thrust out his sword and made a desperate, suicidal charge. But Ariston was fated to live- he was saved by a blow from Orchomenus, the Spartan soldier who loved and hated him too much to let him die. He came to Athens a slave, a prostitute whose favors were sold by Polyxenus, the bathhouse keeper. In time, although not a citizen, he was to become one of the most powerful men in his adopted city, the friend and patron of Sokrates and Eurepides, the embodiment of all that was finest in the Athenian spirit. But always Ariston lived in the shadow of a black day in Sparta when, because of him, a beautiful young girl was hideously slaughtered- again and again suffering and death came close to those he loved. 2020br.

2020br.
