2011Best.-Nr. 42792Oxford University Press. Very Good with no dust jacket. Hardcover. Very faint shelfwear. Underlining in pencil to a few pages.; Oxford Classical Monographs; 304 pages; This book traces the development of the Theseus myth and its importance for Athens. Mills examines all extant tragedies in which Theseus appear in order to assess the significance of his role as mythological representative of Athenian greatness. She argues that the Theseus of most Athenian tragedy is carefully drawn to exemplify the idealized image of the Athenian "national character" that was prevalent in the age of the empire. . 2011. 0198150636 . 2001Best.-Nr. S9068Nicosia: Politistiko Hidryma Trapezes Kyprou 2001. Brand new. Bilingual Greek / English illustrated edition. Folder 28 x 27 / 320 pp.; a CD with music and songs from various regions of Asia Minor is included in the case. Almost eighty years have passed since the Asia Minor Disaster 1922 which was such a tragically determining factor in the history of modern Hellenism. The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and Ephesus Publishing have decided to publish the present richly illustrated volume as the least we could do as an act of homage to the world of Asia Minor to those who lost their lives and to those who were uprooted from the land of their fathers. Smyrna a cosmopolitan city but with a large and prosperous Greek community is presented symbolically as representing all the Greeks of Asia Minor whose metropolis it was. The unique pictorial material used in this publication consists mainly of postcards but also photographs from important historical archives. The cards have been selected from a rich collection and indeed this may be the first time they have all been published together. Thus the reader can find a virtually complete picture of the Ionian capital since most of the individual pieces in the mosaic are presented in these pages. In addition a picture is provided of present-day Smyrna with photographs taken especially for this publication. The fact that this is essentially an art book does not mean that less attention has been paid to the texts. On the contrary the collaboration with the Centre for Asia Minor Studies has ensured the desired level of quality and endowed the work with an academic identity.
