2015réf. 038705Athens: Ekdotikos Organismos Livani 2015 Book. New Book from Greece. French Wraps. 1st Greek Edition. The "rescue" of Greece through documents of IMF the Americans and the European Commission and the tragic responsibilities of Greek politicians. On Saturday November 21 2009 five officials of the European Commission the Eurogroup the ECB and the Greek Government accompanied by their staff gathered in the office of Prime Minister of Luxembourg .under the inviolable condition never to disclose .this the secret meeting. . Attended by the head of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet Commissioner Joaquim Almunia the Greek Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou and the governor of the Bank of Greece George Provopoulos. For the secret meeting informed proven source of the Eurogroup then chaired by Mr. Juncker and confirmed to me by Mr. Papakonstantinou who told me that during the "Our measures applied to reduce the 2010 deficit of course not 2009. Especially" he said "the ECB insisted very large reduction spoke for 4-5 units. Finally we put the budget reduction of 3.6 units with additional measures in January were 4 points "said the then finance minister. That day Messrs. Juncker Trichet and Almunia sent in Mr. Papandreou a "mini Memorandum". It was their proposal to end the crisis in the bud. Then Prime Minister never answered them. And Greece was led to destruction . Researching the Greek debt crisis increasingly concluded that the country had the misfortune to fall into the hands of leaders who have been unable either to understand the dimensions of the crisis that exploded in their hands or to manage it.To write this book I spoke to 139 people: officials of the Greek government the IMF the US government FED ECB and European Commission. I also had the good fortune to read documents of IMF the US Embassy in Athens and the European Commission.543p.7 copies found in WroldCat. Ekdotikos Organismos Livani paperback

2014réf. 038692Athens: Dioptra 2014 Book. Illus. by Trans. Michalis Delengos. New Book from Greece. French Wraps. Reissue. Until recently popular biographers and most scholars viewed Alexander the Great as a genius with a plan a romantic figure pursuing his vision of a united world. His dream was at times characterized as a benevolent interest in the brotherhood of man sometimes as a brute interest in the exercise of power. Green a Cambridge-trained classicist who is also a novelist portrays Alexander as both a complex personality and a single-minded general a man capable of such diverse expediencies as patricide or the massacre of civilians. Green describes his Alexander as "not only the most brilliant and ambitious field commander in history but also supremely indifferent to all those administrative excellences and idealistic yearnings foisted upon him by later generations especially those who found the conqueror tout court a little hard upon their liberal sensibilities."This biography begins not with one of the universally known incidents of Alexander's life but with an account of his father Philip of Macedonia whose many-territoried empire was the first on the continent of Europe to have an effectively centralized government and military. What Philip and Macedonia had to offer Alexander made his own but Philip and Macedonia also made Alexander form an important context for understanding Alexander himself. Yet his origins and training do not fully explain the man. After he was named hegemon of the Hellenic League many philosophers came to congratulate Alexander but one was conspicuous by his absence: Diogenes the Cynic an ascetic who lived in a clay tub.Piqued and curious Alexander himself visited the philosopher who when asked if there was anything Alexander could do for him made the famous reply "Don't stand between me and the sun." Alexander's courtiers jeered but Alexander silenced them: "If I were not Alexander I would be Diogenes." This remark was as unexpected in Alexander as it would be in a modern leader. For the general reader the book redolent with gritty details and fully aware of Alexander's darker side offers a gripping tale of Alexander's career. Full backnotes fourteen maps and chronological and genealogical tables serve readers with more specialized interests. Dioptra paperback
