2004réf. 040692New York: Pella Publishing Company 2004 Book. New. Soft cover. First Edition. "'Greeces twentieth-century history not unlike that of a large portion of the rest of Europe has been marked by frequent wars economic underdevelopment deep political fissures political clientelism and frequent as well as competing foreign intervention in the country's domestic affairs. In political science terms the countrys democratic system was less than consolidated in the sense that it was marked by frequent military intervention in politics. This book reconstructs Greeces melancholy political landscape during the dark years of the colonels dictatorship. The author conducted scores of interviews with prominent political figures e.g. Constantine Karamanlis Andreas Papandreou Panayiotis Kanellopoulos Constantine Mitsotakis Mikis Theodorakis Georgios Mavros Archbishop Makarios and former King Constantine. He also met with some functionaries representing the Greek junta and with a number of American diplomats. These interviews recorded over thirty years ago mirror the attitudes and mentalities of political protagonists of that time and could be treated as primary source material for historians who still need to produce a detached and dispassionate record of those trying times." 344p. index. 2007réf. 041629London: Tauris Academic Studies 2007 Book. New. Hardcover. First Edition. International Library of Political Studies Volume 22 "How do those living in diaspora form their own national and transnational identity The Greek Idea offers a new critical paradigm from which to explore these identities. Drawing upon postcolonial theory Maria Koundoura addresses and analyzes the cultural material that produced Greeces representation as both Europes origin and "other". The long association of Greece and English Literature began with English travellers' "discovery" of Greece in the late-eighteenth century and the reinforcement of the myth which placed Greece as the location of Western culture. However Greece now finds itself on the boundary of a Europe which had originally placed it at the center. Koundoura maps what this dual representation signifies for Greeks both national and diasporic. In doing so she touches on England Greece the United States Australia and twentieth century diaspora cultures. For scholars of postcolonial English European Balkan Modern Greek and Diaspora studies this fascinating contribution to the growing area of transnational culture studies opens up the critical discourse in their field." 214p.bibiography index. 2015réf. 038705Athens: Ekdotikos Organismos Livani 2015 Book. New Book from Greece. French Wraps. 1st Greek Edition. The "rescue" of Greece through documents of IMF the Americans and the European Commission and the tragic responsibilities of Greek politicians. On Saturday November 21 2009 five officials of the European Commission the Eurogroup the ECB and the Greek Government accompanied by their staff gathered in the office of Prime Minister of Luxembourg .under the inviolable condition never to disclose .this the secret meeting. . Attended by the head of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet Commissioner Joaquim Almunia the Greek Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou and the governor of the Bank of Greece George Provopoulos. For the secret meeting informed proven source of the Eurogroup then chaired by Mr. Juncker and confirmed to me by Mr. Papakonstantinou who told me that during the "Our measures applied to reduce the 2010 deficit of course not 2009. Especially" he said "the ECB insisted very large reduction spoke for 4-5 units. Finally we put the budget reduction of 3.6 units with additional measures in January were 4 points "said the then finance minister. That day Messrs. Juncker Trichet and Almunia sent in Mr. Papandreou a "mini Memorandum". It was their proposal to end the crisis in the bud. Then Prime Minister never answered them. And Greece was led to destruction . Researching the Greek debt crisis increasingly concluded that the country had the misfortune to fall into the hands of leaders who have been unable either to understand the dimensions of the crisis that exploded in their hands or to manage it.To write this book I spoke to 139 people: officials of the Greek government the IMF the US government FED ECB and European Commission. I also had the good fortune to read documents of IMF the US Embassy in Athens and the European Commission.543p.7 copies found in WroldCat. Ekdotikos Organismos Livani paperback
