"The Seven Sermons here printed were preached in East-wood Chapel, at Seven successive services, during the month of November, 1879. Having the only distinction of being the most easily obtainable fragment of a busy ministry, they can not pretend to much, if they would. They are thus published, from a reporter's notes, that they may serve as a memorial to those who heard them, of the preacher's unaffected gratitude for the generous atmosphere which brought them into existence." - From the Preface.
