Roux de Rochelle late Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in the United States from the King of the French" upon his recall to France. "When the foreign representative was recalled by his government the town meeting was convened at which the Mayor presided. The influence of Gaetani Carusi was not only because of his ownership of the Assembly Rooms for more than four decades but also because of his skill as a musician having been a former U. S. Carusi was an Italian immigrant who left an indelible mark on the development of the American concert band. Carusi's Assembly Rooms functioned as a popular entertainment venue and music hall in early Washington. Carusi's hosted several inaugural balls from the administrations of President John Quincy Adams to President James Buchanan including William Henry Harrison.
