In questo libro vengono figurate circa 650 ammoniti, delle quali molte sono state oggetto di pubblicazioni scientifiche, che hanno fatto conoscere e reso celebre la Valle del Fiume Bosso e le montagne dell'Appennino Umbro/Marchigiano nel mondo. Quelle più antiche sono di età Sinemuriano inferiore (200 milioni di anni); ne seguono altre del Sinemuriano medio e superiore (Lotaringiano) e del Pliensbachiano inferiore (Carixiano) che ci hanno permesso poi di istituire una Zonazione Mediterranea. Vengono poi le ammoniti del Pliensbachiano superiore (Domeriano) con il dettaglio dell'evoluzione delle Protogrammoceratinae. Con le ammoniti rinvenute nel membro "I Lecceti" abbiamo potuto elaborare nuove ipotesi per la definizione del passaggio Domeriano/Toarciano. Quest'ultime sono molto rare e presenti solo in pochi affioramenti. È per questo motivo che è stato realizzato un "Sentiero delle ammoniti" che permette di raggiungere abbastanza agevolmente le sezioni della Valle del Fiume Bosso dove affiora anche il Rosso Ammonitico e da dove provengono tantissime ammoniti figurare nel libro.
