1988ref. 1700SF: Sierra Club Books 1988. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Inscribed in a blue pen in the year of publication on the front free endpaper: "To Mary Lou with every best wish -- Tom Berry Nov 9-88." His classic work uncommon signed. The first volume in the Sierra Club Nature and Natural Philosophy Library. With a foreword by Brian Swimme. In these essays "Berry defines a restorative creative relationship with the natural world" and "establishes the philosophical ground for a bioregional mode of reinhabiting the earth." Environmental writer Richard Louv argues that "Thomas Berry was the earliest and most important voice to describe the profound importance of the disconnection between humans and the natural world and what that could mean for the future of our species." Very good with slight bumping to spine ends and a few corners and with light pencil underlining and marginal annotations in some of the essays. In a very good minus jacket with fraying and slight loss to spine ends and corners and some minor creasing and short tears to edges. A long crease down the full the length of the spine but the panels present very well. Sierra Club Books hardcover

1964ref. 11082New York: Harcourt Brace & World 1964. Hard Cover. Very Good binding/Good dust jacket. Octavo. 8 56 pp. First edition first printing. As issued in publisher's cloth-backed-boards with dust jacket. Binding has a slight lean but is otherwise quite fresh and clean throughout; dust jacket with some staining and abrasion to the spine; aside from that light rubbing and toning; price has been clipped. This is a remarkably early work by the poet novelist and environmental activist and is his first published collection of poetry preceded only by "November Twenty Six Nineteen Hundred Sixty Three" a single poem illustrated by Ben Shahn. Quite an uncommon book by a beloved figure in 20th century literature. Harcourt, Brace & World unknown
1974ref. 2233NY: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich 1974. First edition. Hardcover. Second printing the copyright line starting with "B." Jim Harrison's copy: Unmarked but laid in is a typed signed 1981 memo TLS to Harrison from Noah Adams of National Public Radio with the subject line "A Book as Promised" and reading: "Also -- much comment here and some mail and phone calls concerning our interview. Mostly from people who don't know your work. Thanks-- Noah." It suggests Adams sent the novel as a follow up to Harrison's NPR interview perhaps it came up in their conversation. The novel is Berry's third a follow-up to Nathan Coulter and A Place on Earth. Octavo in orange cloth blue-gray topstain. Very good with a little pull to top of spine and a couple small spots to outer text block face. In a very good dust jacket with edge wear and light wear to spine ends and corners subtle toning to edges of the white rear panel and flaps and general rubbing. The letter is folded in thirds very good with the left edge slightly curled and toned from sticking out of the book. A nice association between novelists with a deep focus on place. More about the book: "In a small town in Kentucky 92-year-old Jack Beechum a farmer moves slowly through his last day of life. Day dreaming in his rocking-chair he recalls his love for his wife and long days working the earth. Harcourt Brace Jovanovich hardcover
