1936réf. 020629New York NY: Harms Inc. 1936. Autograph. Very good condition. Unbound. Signed by Authors. First Edition. Quarto 4to. The final page of a typed contract between the composer and Harms Inc. the music publisher dated July 16 1936. The document signed by George Gershwin is in regards to the use of "Rhapsody in Blue" in "The Great Ziegfeld" soundtrack. The agreement states "under no circumstances does this license authorize the use of the name George Gershwin or the title 'Rhapsody in Blue' in connection with advertising 'The Great Ziegfeld'". The classical-jazz masterpiece "Rhapsody in Blue" is briefly interpolated during the movie's famously extravagant "A Pretty Girl Is Like a Melody" production number. While the main theme of that sequence was composed by Irving Berlin the medley also weaves in short excerpts of other famous musical works including Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. CONDITION: The page has light creases in two places where it was folded and has minor browning that affects most of the text but not the entire page. Harms, Inc. Paperback
