Helga Paris was born in 1938 into the chaotic landscape of Germany just before the onset of the Second World War. As the Cold War ensued Paris emerged as one of the foremost photographic chroniclers of everyday life in the German Democratic Republic GDR. Her first book Gesichter: Frauen in der DRR Faces: Women in the GDR is a purposeful and intimate series of portraits of East Germans in their quotidian spaces. Impressum. (München, Drei Masken 1922). unknown
