Good. The English pianist composer and piano instructor Sebastian Bach Mills 1839-1898 made his concert career in the United States where he gave the first American performances of many important works. Named by his father after the great composer Mills chose the piano over the organ. A child prodigy he came to the attention of light music composer Louis-Antoine Julian who engaged him for early performances including performing Czerny's "Rondo Brillant on Themes from Preciosa" at London's Drury Lane Theatre at the age of 6. He went on to study with major figures in London and at the Leipzig Conservatory where he learned from Louis Plaidy Carl Czerny Ignaz Moscheles among others. Making his way to America in 1856 he was soon engaged by Carl Bergmann the New York Philharmonic Society music director to perform the Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor. He went on to frequently perform with the Philharmonic Society from 1859 to 1877 making tours of Germany as well. He was a personal friend of William Steinway and performed exclusively on Steinway pianos. New York, December 12th, 1884.
