E dalla formazione di architetto Gianfranco Ferré trae il suo metodo, che proprio nel disegno ha il suo fulcro, il suo momento fondante, il suo modo di dare una forma alle idee, concretezza a un'intuizione, "fermare le impressioni e dar loro un abbozzo di consistenza": il disegno quindi come "necessità e passione insieme, punto d'arrivo nella dimensione della realtà e insieme punto di partenza per un progetto". Il libro dei disegni di Ferré vuole dunque ricostruire un percorso intellettuale, l'evoluzione di un mondo interiore di ricerca, di lettura, di sintesi culturale e stilistica, che resti come testimonianza e spunto di riflessione: disegno come espressione di libertà e rigore, di creatività e metodo, ma allo stesso tempo strumento di lavoro, esercizio quotidiano, habitus mentale, approccio concreto.
