At the end of a century that witnessed the sensational rediscovery of the figure and works of Antonio Vivaldi this study epitomizes the most important and representative of his productions: instrumental music. From Marc Pincherle?s monograph (1948), this is the first book dedicated in an organic way to the instrumental music of the ?Prete Rosso? Even the sonates are treated with particular attention while an attempt is made, where possible, to contribute to the crucial unsolved problem of chronology. 1128 gr. vi-622 p.
Vivaldi offers a fundamental contribution to the history of the flute, to its repertory and the development of its technique with 92 works composed for this particular instrument. The essay clearly shows the diffusion of the flute in Italy at the beginning of the 18th century and analyses each of Vivaldi?s operas specifying both the locality and the date. The outcome of this study shows that eight works attributed to Vivaldi are not authentic while other recently discovered works are presented to the public for the first time. 520 gr. x-252 p.
