Mickey Charles Mantle October 20 1931 - August 13 1995 nicknamed The Commerce Comet and The Mick was an American professional baseball player. This comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Gloria Thomas widow of singer and songwriter BJ Thomas! Mantle played his entire Major League Baseball MLB career 1951-1968 with the New York Yankees as a center fielder right fielder and first baseman. Mantle was one of the best players and sluggers and is regarded by many as the greatest switch hitter in baseball history. Mantle was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 and was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. Mantle was one of the greatest offensive threats of any center fielder in baseball history. He hit 536 MLB career home runs batted .300 or more ten times and is the career leader tied with Jim Thome in walk-off home runs with 13 12 in the regular season and one in the postseason. He is the only player in history to hit 150 home runs from both sides of the plate. He won the MVP Award three times. Mantle won the Triple Crown in 1956 when he led the major leagues in batting average .353 home runs 52 and runs batted in 130. He was an All-Star for 16 seasons playing in 16 of the 20 All-Star Games that were played during his career. He was an American League Most Valuable Player three times and a Gold Glove winner. Mantle appeared in 12 World Series including seven championships and holds World Series records for the most home runs 18 RBIs 40 extra-base hits 26 runs 42 walks 43 and total bases 123. This is an inside story about the Yankees in their glory days by one of the stars illustrated with photographs. The Yankees' star center fielder recounts his life and career from boyhood to his glory days as power hitter and home-run king and recalls his relationship with the other stars on the Yankee roster. From the Dust Jacket: Here then is Mickey Mantle's true story: honest answers to the questions that his fans have been asking for more than twenty years. Sure it's full of those great names from the Yankee past: Maris DiMaggio Stengel Ford Berra Martin and Howard. The book abounds with those memories of when Mickey was the toast f the town. More than that though it movingly recounts the private events of his remarkable public life; from his humble beginnings to his personal triumphs in and out of baseball to the tragedy that haunts four generations of his family. Brimming with the nostalgia and the detail that baseball fans love The Mick is a wry affectionate and stunningly candid self-portrait of a true American Legend. Doubleday & Company, Inc hardcover

Alceste an opera in three acts with text by R. de Calzabigi and a ballet by Noverre was first performed on 26 December 1767 at the Burgtheater in Vienna. It was revised by Gluck for a performance in Paris on 23 April 1776. "Gluck himself stressed the nature of Alceste as a `reform opera' by providing in the preface dedicating the printed score to the Grand Duke Leopold a discussion that goes far beyond the conventional. .That key document at once a manifesto and a defense . is a sharp repudiation of the theory practice and conventions of the old "opera seria" represented in its final phase by Metastasio and his favourite composer Hasse." "Iphigénie en Tauride was given on May 18 1778 with excellent singers; Rosalie Lavasseur sang Iphigénie Larrivée Oreste Legros Pylade and Moreau Thoas . The opera had a great success immediately and even Grimm wrote of it - I do not know whether this is melody but perhaps it is something better. When I hear Iphigénie I forget I am at the opera; I seem to be listening to a Greek tragedy with music by Lekain and Mlle Clarion. It was the crowning point of Gluck's career. Guillard had provided an excellent libretto more classical than Goethe's poem less Christian and more ruthless; and Gluck had seized on the contrast between Scythians and Greeks upon the perfectly dramatic figures of Iphigenia and Orestes and had produced a work which both re-created a part of Greek tragedy and at the same time foretold a new world." Cooper: Gluck p. 258. While Marie-Antoinette is not actually mentioned on the title she was the queen to whom the work is dedicated. Des Lauriers [without PN] unknown
