Titolo con grande vignetta incisa in rame firmata da Rabault, con motto: "Obloquitur numeris septem discrimina vacoum"; elaborati frontalini e finalini incisi in rame, figure geometriche n.t. Bella chiosa manoscritta a pag 279 che riporta calcoli matematici. Qualche errore di paginazione riguarda le pp. 165-166, e 335-336. Con il testo greco di Diofante e la traduzione latina di Wilhelm Xylander, cfr. l'epistola al lettore a c. §3v-§4r. Senza il foglio di errata come per la maggior parte degli esemplari conosciuti. A pag. H3r si trova l'ultimo celebre teorema di Fermat, rimasto per secoli irrisolto. Nel 1995 Sir Andrew Wiles formulò l'incredibile dimostrazione del teorema, attraverso la congettura di modularità delle curve ellittiche semistabili, aprendo una nuova era per la teoria dei numeri ("Modular elliptic curves and Fermat's Last theorem, in Annals of Mathematics", vol. 141, 443-551).Prima edizione dei commentari di Pierre de Fermat sull'Aritmetica di Diofanto di Alessandria, nonché, prima enunciazione del teorema sulla teoria dei numeri. La presente edizione venne pubblica postuma da Clement Samuel, figlio di Fermat ed è basata sulla copia della edizione del 1621 con le annotazioni del padre, che comprendono tra l'altro il celebre teorema. Bell'esemplare fresco. Un angolo del piatto superiore restaurato, qualche foglio lievemente brunito e una macchia d'umido al margine interno bianco dei primi dieci fogli. . Marca tipografica al frontis, varie figg. geometriche e schemi nel testo. E' la prima e la più popolare aritmetica del rinascimento. Apparve nel 1540. Tratta delle proporzioni, algebra, radici e unisce l' antica scienza dei numeri all' aritmetica commerciale italiana, inoltre ragiona delle propietà occulte dei numeri. La nostra edizione è aumentata dalle annotazioni di J. Peletier ed è molto rara. Manca a: Harvard, Bm. Stc. French, Smith, Libri ed Honeyman Collection.
