And speaking of money Harry suspects that his current sponsorship deal--he runs a driving range from April to November for no salary in exchange for the cash to go on tour--might not be the fairest of deals. Finally there are the fans. In California Arizona Texas Louisiana Georgia and Florida beautiful women line the fairways hoping for a date with their favorite pro. But as Harry soon learns if wedding bells don't ring the following winter he'll have hell to pay. First published in Sports Illustrated these humorous missives from the bottom rungs of the leader board will delight duffers and low handicappers alike. Alfred A. Knopf hardcover books

1938réf. 17183JLos Angeles: Selznick International Pictures November 8 1938. Original 23 page carbon typescript on onionskin paper bound in blue cardstock studio covers. Fine condition. An historic piece showing the struggles David O. Selznick endured trying the create the best screenplay for his classic film. This manuscript written by Bradford Foote compares and points out the differences between the screenplay written by Sidney Howard with a screenplay version written by Foote. The Ransom Center at the University of Texas which holds the archives of David O. Selznick writes “In October 1938 Selznick sent the Sidney Howard script to two top MGM scriptwriters Lawrence Stallings and Bradbury Foote for help editing. The men under confidentiality had eight days to make their suggestions. Foote’s editing gave the film a happy ending destroying one of the novel’s most emotionally powerful scenes. In Foote’s rewrite Rhett does indeed leave but Mammy thrashes the famous “Tomorrow is another day!” speech telling Scarlett “Never you mind tomorrow honey. This here is today! There goes your man!” The scene dissolves to a shot of a railroad station. Scarlett corners Rhett in the car of a train entreating “Oh Rhett! Life is just beginning for us! Can’t you see it is We’ve both been blind stupid fools! But we’re still young! We can make up for those wasted years! Oh Rhett—let me make them up to you! Please! Please!” He kisses her hands and the scene fades out. Selznick considered this rewrite “awful.” Selznick International Pictures unknown

De Havilland's erasure and correction (to 'al' in 'survival') ; On light blue typing paper. Dated September 17, 1983, Paris, France, to Roy Hensel, Carlisle County School, Bardwell, Kentucky. "Dear Roy Hensel, Many, many thanks indeed for your recent kind letter and for your generous comments about my work. Under seperate cover the GONE WITH THE WIND still you sent me for my signature will soon be on its way to you. Regarding your questions: 1) I think there are several reasons for the enduring popularity of GONE WITH THE WIND: its theme is universal as it deals with conflict, defeat, and renaissance--an experience familiar to all peoples, all nations. 2) Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, and I were cast in our roles before any of the principal filming had begun, and our selection was announced simultaneously in January, 1939. 3) I do feel that Sidney Howard's adaptation of the novel was very faithful to the spirit of the book and to all its most significant elements and details. 4) Clark Gable was always perfectly prepared for his role, highly professional in every respect. With very best wishes to you and to your students, Most sincerely, Olivia De Havilland" Signed in ballpoint pen. Folded once lengthwise and once across. Folds hardly noticeable. Letters are two-toned, blue and red. Nice letter, great content
To Mr. Cordell, Atlanta Constitution: "Dear Mr. Cordell: It must be obvious that if there were any news available on the musical version of "Gone With the Wind", such news would not have been kept secret. - Please believe that I am completely sincere in wishing to cooperate with you on the piece, which cooperation would be in our own selfish interests. I wish I could tell you precisely when I could give you the information you seek, but this too is impossible. Frankly, I don't know. My suggestion is that we make a note here to put you on our mailing list for this information at the time it is given to other newspapers and magazines. Would this be satisfactory from your standpoint? With kindest regards, Sincerely yours (signed) DOS (initialed); 1 pages

Probably Mitchell's most interesting letter. To the editor of the San Antonio Light, San Antonio, Texas: "Dear Sir: I am Mrs. John R. Marsh (Margaret Mitchell) of Atlanta, Georgia, author of 'Gone With the Wind'. I am writing you about an item published in your newspaper on August 5, 1947, stating that 'Mrs. John R. Marsh (Margaret Mitchell) , nationally known author had just arrived in San Antonio from Mexico City. With this item you published a photograph with the caption 'Margaret Mitchell Back to Hollywood'. I have learned that this woman also autographed copies of my novel 'Gone With the Wind' and in other ways created the impression she was me. This has caused me great embarrassment and I must ask you to publish a correction. I was not in San Antonio on August 5 and I have never been in your city, much to my regret. I have never been in Mexico City, where you said I had been, and I have never been in Dallas or Hollywood, where you said I was going. The photograph you published is not my photograph and does not resemble me in any manner. (...) " ; 2 pages
