La truffa consiste nel far credere alla contemporaneità che l'arte sia quello che oggi le viene presentato come tale. Si sa che la truffa è un delitto poco punito, perché i giuristi considerano che chi truffa ha sempre un complice proprio nel truffato, colpevole di credulità, e quindi corresponsabile. In tutte le società occidentali, le persone soffrono della mancanza di tempo e si sentono in dovere di correre ancora più in fretta, non tanto per raggiungere un obiettivo, ma per non perdere posizioni. Questo libro esamina le cause e gli effetti dei processi di accelerazione della nostra epoca individuandone tre aspetti, tecnico, sociale e individuale. Secondo Rosa l'insieme di tali processi porta a gravi forme di patologia sociale legate al rapporto con il tempo e lo spazio, le cose e le azioni, la percezione di sé e degli altri.
