Gore Vidal and Anais Nin's friendship emerged from their shared commitment to challenging the literary and cultural orthodoxies of mid-twentieth-century America. While Vidal’s incisive social satire and Nin’s lyrical explorations of erotic subjectivity differed in style both writers pursued themes of identity and transgression which created a foundation of mutual admiration. In fine condition. From the library of Anais Nin. An exceptional association linking these two great writers. Stylistically influenced by Hemingway this work "is distinguished by its honesty and lack of self-pity; the central figure is unexceptional in every respect but his sexual choices" Stringer 690. "One of the best novels of its kind. . . . It isnt sentimental and it is frank without trying to be sensational and shocking" Christopher Isherwood. E.P. Dutton & Company hardcover
