1929Lucky Strike cigarette ad on back cover provides a truly classic and timeless example of a mis-timed advertisement. Consider that the great Wall St. stock market crash of 1929 occurred mere days before this issue hit the newsstands. Beneath the caption "An Ancient Prejudice has been removed" appears a clenched fist labeled as "American Intelligence" breaking a heavy chain. Top left a paranoid miser stacks his gold by candlelight. Top right a wealthy couple visits their palatial bank. Text beneath miser reads "Hoarding gold with the fanatical zeal of the miser has vanished. American Intelligence sponsors thousands of banking institutions to which the individual (i.e. the wealthy couple) safely entrusts his wealth." The message is clear. Readers should put their trust (and money) in the banks, and shun gold. This issue was likely printed just as the Great Crash occurred, causing countless financial institutions to go under - and destroying even more individual fortunes. (The ad goes on to claim that cigarettes have similarly overcome the prejudice against them.) A truly stunning work which deserves to be preserved and reflected upon in this age of limitless fiat currency printing. Average wear with three-inch crease to lower corner of back cover. Suitably framed and mounted, this ad will make a superlative office display for any precious metals executive. Magazine

1950A most unique 29 page volume of poetry including such titles as: Old Folks Alone; The Nomad (which appears beneath the book's only illustration, that of a middle aged couple); The Isle of Dreams; The Immigrant's Return; Satisfied; The Prospector; and many others. Author's signature inside front cover. Several handwritten corrections to contents may be those of the author. Several poems have different poems pasted on top of them. Thus, this volume may in fact be a draft copy. Pasted inside the back cover is a most amusing work entitled "A Close Call" - an Australian Idyl, which describes the Widow McPhee's near-seduction of the writer whilst he was camped out beneath a 'monster blue-gum tree' in sunny New South Wales. Wholesale peeling to inside of front cover suggests a pasted down poem has been removed. We note passing references to the Yukon, prospecting, and the lanes of Devon. Undated - circa 1950?. Very well worn but holding together. Book

1945réf. 005917np Greenwich CT: np 1945. Unpublished Typescript w/ manuscript illustrations. Elbe no. 27 Binder. Near Fine. Unpaged 120-140 pp recto only including bibliography. 29cm. Tall quarto. Black leatherette Elbe no. 27 spring binder with title in pencil on masking tape spine label. There's an ingenious system of chapter markers made from cloth reinforcements numbered in pen poking out from the fore edge they're worn but still serviceable. Copiously illustrated in both graphite and pen & ink with roughly half the drawings traced and half rendered freehand. Pages are ribbon copy typescript with original drawings in-text a feat unto itself. Book condition: Minor chipping to the spine ends of the binder worn chapter markers else fine. The illustrations range from accomplished to clumsy; serious to whimsical not always on purpose. There is both precision drafting and true art brut. The lack of even the slightest sense of humor doesn't help the author's cause which is coming from a place hostile to organized religions of all stripes. One experiences the growing sense of incredulity from the very first as the author's grasp of logic is revealed to be of an altogether different nature. There's a lot of work in this book though. We respect the fact that it's exactly one more book than we've ever written. Still the effort to turn virtually every single religious symbol ever created into elaborate phalli bristling with menace can grow so to speak tiresome. np unknown
