The albumin family consists of all proteins that are water-soluble are moderately soluble in concentrated salt solutions and experience heat denaturation. Albumins are commonly found in blood plasma and are unique from other blood proteins in that they are not glycosylated. Substances containing albumins such as egg white are called albuminoids. A number of blood transport proteins are evolutionarily related including serum albumin alpha-fetoprotein vitamin D-binding protein and afamin. Pierre Jacques Antoine Bechamp was a French chemist and biologist now best known as a rival of Louis Pasteur. Bchamp did pioneering work in industrial chemistry developing an efficient process to produce aniline dye which was central to the development of the synthetic dye industry. He also developed p-aminophenylarsonate an organic arsenic compound used to treat parasitic diseases. Bechamp's later life was consumed by a bitter and protracted dispute with Louis Pasteur. Initially their rivalry centered on credit for discovery of fermentation and later grew to encompass competing ideas on microbiology pathogenesis and germ theor Paris, Imprimerie royale hardcover

Folio 9.25 x 13 inches 235 x 330 mm. The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia was established by the learned naturalists of high Philadelphian society in early 19th century America to document the recent natural discoveries of a new nation and farther afield. The founding members and contributors were the luminaries of early American natural history and sciences; Titian Peale Thomas Say and George Ord to name a few. The Journal of the Academy of Natural Sciences was their clarion and was illustrated with wonderful folio-sized hand-colored lithographs by RP Smith Lithographer.
