1966réf. 26055New York & Boston: American Heritage / Houghton Mifflin 1966. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/issued without dj. Audubon. 4tos light blue cloth in publisher's dark blue slipcase spines somewhat faded Reproduces -for the first time in full color -virtually all of the original paintings -not the engravings of the published work. The accuracy made possible by modern photographic and printing techniques makes this in incomparable production. Audubon's original paintings differ markedly from the final engraver's products. This work can be studied side-by-side with the collection of prints to appreciate the substantial advances Audubon made beyond the accepted standards in bird art yielding a fresh view of his achievement.
