1966rif. 250699New York & Boston: American Heritage Publishing 1966. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/issued without dj. Audubon. 4tos blue cloth in a blue publisher's slipcase with yellow ribbon possibly a bit shorter than as published spines somewhat faded uniformly Reproduces -for the first time in full color -virtually all of the original paintings -- not the engravings of the published work. The accuracy made possible by modern photographic and printing techniques makes this in incomparable production. Audubon's original paintings differ markedly from the final engraver's products. This work can be studied side-by-side with the collection of prints to appreciate the substantial advances Audubon made beyond the accepted standards in bird art yielding a fresh view of his achievement.
