1986175 pages. In addition to author's signature, this book bears the printed name "Jan Pullinger" on the front flyleaf. Ms. Pullinger and her husband, Dale Lovick, were MLAs and prominent Cabinet Ministers during the NDPs two terms of power in British Columbia in the 1990s. The underlining and marginalia are presumbably those of Ms. Pullinger. Thus, this volume may shed a unique glimpse into the social and political philosophy which took the NDP to power in 1991 and back to two elected members in the 2001 provincial election. Spine leans to right. Several pages loose. Book shows why "Christians are obliged to transform their world." A unique and indispensable contribution to the debate that exposes the values at work in Canadian society. Book

1974203 pages including index and several black and white photographic plates. Gives an up-to-date approach to an ancient art, in which hypnosis is regarded as a potent and multi-faceted tool which can be used to modify patient-reactions resulting from surgery and complex treatments, such as coronary care and renal dialysis. Obstetrics and dentistry excepted, its use to replace normal anaesthetic methods is nearly obsolete today. The hospital doctor who realizes the reciprocal effects of severe illness on his patient's psyche yet deprecates the routine use of tranquilizers, will find this book invaluable. 1986324 pages including index and numerous interesting black and white photographic plates. Inscribed to "Number 32 Deepsea" by Author upon half-title page which bears many additional signatures including those of: David Forsyth, Bob MacLaurier, A.J. (Jack) Douglas, Bob Kennedy, Tom McGrath, A. McKeown, Gerry McCullough, Bill Wilson, and Lloyd Robinson. McCullough is mentioned in the book as a Lake seaman who went deepsea during the war and was, at time of publication, a full-time organizer for the International Transport Workers Federation and responsible for tracking down ships violating basic conditions and bringing them into line. His predecessor was Tom McGrath. Shotguns, Mounties, American gangsters, the courts and government - all were used by the shipowners to destroy the Canadian Seaman's Union. What was this union that provoked such an unprecedented attack? Combining rigorous research with the stirring recollections of the people who lived the events, Jim Green weaves a gripping story from the union's birth on the Great Lakes in the mid-1930s through the 1949 world-wide strike to save the Canadian merchant fleet. Some creasing to covers. Average wear overall to this special copy. Book
1989242 pages. "Comprised of eighteen stories about people who have worked hard, who sometimes struggled mightily, to keep alive a traditional way of life and traditional objects that probably don't mean much in economic terms for a society such as ours. But they do mean a great deal about who we are and where we should go in the future. Wooden boats, after all, are metaphors..." - from back cover. Unmarked. Moderate wear. Solid copy. Book
