1817réf. 9807This is an early Colonial biography "Memoirs of the Life of Mrs. Abigail Waters; Who Died in Boston November 22d 1816 in the 96th Year of Her Age. To Which is Prefixed The Sermon Preached on the Occasion of Her Death" by Joshua Huntington Pastor of the Old South Church. 1817 2nd edition stated; Samuel T. Armstrong; Boston. Smaller in size - the book measures 6" tall x 3 3/4" wide. Hardcover with 144 numbered pages. The book chronicles the long life and deep spiritual journey of Abigail Dawes Waters a Boston woman who lived to the age of 95. Because Abigail lived from 1721 to 1816 her life spans a massive era of transition. The narrative offers a rare look at a woman's daily life and perspective as she lived through Colonial America the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The book draws from personal anecdotes letters and tributes to depict her childhood marriage family life and her quiet resilience when facing personal hardships losses and the typical struggles of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The biography is uniquely structured to include the actual funeral sermon preached by Joshua Huntington upon her death. The sermon frames her long life as a model of private virtue piety and Christian fellowship for the community.
