John Waters born 1955 is an Irish columnist political candidate journalist and author. He started his career with the music and politics magazine 'Hot Press' and the 'Sunday Tribune' newspaper. He later edited the social magazine 'In Dublin' and the investigative and current affairs magazine 'Magill'. He became a regular columnist at the Irish Times and Irish Independent while authoring some works on non-fiction and developed 'The Whoseday Book' which raised 3 million euros for charity. The Republic of Ireland described variously as "The Emerald Tiger" "The Celtic Tiger" and "The Tiger Economy of Europe" is apparently one of the great success stories of 20th-century Europe. Just 75 years into independence less than 40 years from the stygian blackness of pre-modernity and only a decade from what seemed to be an economic apocalypse Ireland has finally modernized. With a young population and economic growth rates the envy of the western world it should offer a model for all fledgling states to follow. In this unsentimental account of the recent history of his native country John Waters defines the nature of the ideology which fuelled the drive to modernization charts the progress of the policies which brought it to fruition and reveals how Ireland recreated itself culturally politically spiritually and economically as "Modern Ireland".; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 187 pages; Signed by Author . Vintage original film script 11 x 8 1/2" 28 x 22 cm 109 pp. Script designated as Revised Second Draft by Daniel Waters and dated November 17 1987. Printed New World Pictures studio wrappers brad bound near fine. Heathers is a teen black comedy and debut film directed by Michael Lehmann. The film stars Winona Ryder Christian Slater Shannen Doherty Lisanne Falk Kim Walker and Penelope Milford. Its plot portrays four teenage girls -- three of whom are named Heather -- in a clique at an Ohio high school one of whose lives is disrupted by the arrival of a misanthrope intent on murdering the popular students and staging their deaths as suicides. Waters wrote Heathers as a spec script and originally wanted Stanley Kubrick to direct the film out of admiration for Kubrick's own black comedy film Dr. Strangelove. Waters intended the film to contrast the optimistic teen movies of the era particularly those written by John Hughes by presenting a cynical depiction of high school imbued with dark satire.
