An extensive study on fish an essential work of natural history which explores many different species of fish accompanied by detailed engravings.'Histoire Naturelle' is an encylopaedic work originally running to 36 volumes by Buffon being continued by his colleagues led by Lacepede after his death.These volumes were first published from 1797 to 1803 with Volumes I V and VI being a first edition in this set. Volume III IV VII VIII IX X and XI are dated 1821. Volume I dated as the sixth year of the Republic which is 1797-1798. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle rossa dorsi lisci con titoli e fregi in oro. Ben conservato. Edizione rinnovata rispetto alle precedenti anche nella parte iconografica. Al presente esemplare sono state inoltre aggiunte 22 belle tavole raffiguranti specie di pesci in litografia colorata e gommata proveniente dall'opera ittiologica del La Blanchère. Opera scientificamente ben documentata ed iconograficamente molto valida soprattutto per la parte che riguarda la caccia alle balene. Le tavole sono animate oltre che dagli animali raffigurati da un pittorico contorno spesso riproducente scene di caccia pesca ecc. Delahays unknown
