1971réf. 215121971. A collection of nine letters from the journalist artist and socialite Fleur Cowles to her friend Dart prominent California patroness of the arts and philanthropist and member of Ronald Reagan's inner circle. Most of the letters are typed on Cowles’ personal stationery SIGNED ‘Devotedly Fleur’ and provide a glimpse of the relationship of the two close friends in 1955 the Darts’ hosted Cowles’ and Tom Meyer's wedding at their Los Angeles home; the only other guest was best man Cary Grant. Also included are two carbon copies of letters from Jane to Fleur. The letters several 2 & 3 pages mostly revolve around Cowles’ paintings regarding upcoming solo exhibitions at the Seattle Museum of Art and later at Nieman-Marcus in Dallas but include copious ‘gossip of the day.’ Names dropped include Jimmy and Gloria Stewart Thelma Breech Frances and Edgar Bergen Thomas E. Dewey Princess Grace and Prince Rainier Martha Mitchell Dr. Louis Leakey Walter and Lee Annenberg Pollard and Sharon Simons etc. A fascinating window on the 1970’s world of the two ‘rich and famous’ friends. unknown
