2009réf. TJ-7JZJ-2KGK2009 Fort Publishing hardcover edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. From the dustjacket: The story of the Covenanters has been an inspiration for more than three centuries. Their struggle to uphold the Protestant Reformation began with the signing of the National Covenant in 1638. In the half-century that followed many thousands of brave men and women in Scotland went to their deaths for the principle of religious liberty while countless others suffered banishment or persecution. This is one of the most comprehensive books ever published on the Covenanters written by one of the leading authorities in the field. The book covers an impressive range of subjects. The author begins by tracing the lineage of the Covenanting movement back to the Reformation and the foundation of a new form of church governance based on the tenets of Presbyterianism. The main encyclopaedia section has entries on every city town and village associated with the Covenanters. There are mini-biographies of the legendary figures on both sides of the conflict including Peden the Prophet Richard Cameron Donald Cargill Jenny Geddes Grisel Hume John Brown of Priesthill the Wigtown martyrs John Graham of Claverhouse and Archbishop Sharp. The book is lavishly illustrated with around eighty paintings lithographs and photographs many in colour. Fort Publishing hardcover
