1945réf. 62450Nw York: The John Day Company 1945. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Near Fine; see scans and description. New York: The John Day Company 1945. A very rare First Edition of Pearl S. Bucks' 'Talk About Russia with Masha Scott' signed and inscribed by the author on the first free endpaper to Frank Laubach the noted Christian missionary and founder in 1955 of Laubach Literacy after having previously founded the Each One Teach One literacy program in 1915 in the Philippines. In 2002 Laubach Literacy merged with Literacy Volunteers of America Inc. to form ProLiteracy Worldwide. 12mo russet boards black spine imprinting 128 pp. Near Fine - very; lightly touched at spine ends and corner otherwise quite flawless in every way. No jacket present but it is reasonably likely that this chapbook title was issued without jacket. Talk About Russia with 'Masha Scott' is a non-fiction - but Pearl Buck style readable - exploration at that time 1945 of the grassroots people of Russia with and from her good friend Scott. Likely as collectible an example as any now extant and available. Inscription is undated but would have been between 1945 and 1970 when Laubach passed away most likely circa the former. Extraordinarily rare title in any physical form. Ships in a new sturdy protective box of course; not a bag. L202 The John Day Company hardcover
