Henri Markarian, better known as Marc Aryan, was a French-Belgian singer, songwriter, and record producer of Armenian descent born as a French citizen, who also acquired Belgian citizenship after a long residency in the country. Marc Aryan was born to Lebanese Armenian parents who came from Malatya, Turkey. Henri Markarian initially released materials under the personal label Markal. He then changed the name of the label to Malatya where his parents came from. He recorded several songs for an album released in Brussels. With initial success, Henri Markarian decided to adopt the stage name Marc Aryan (derived from the pronunciation of his Armenian family name Markarian). After the successful years 1964 and 1965 locally, the years 1966 and 1969 proved to be his most prosperous years internationally. Marc Aryan enjoyed great popularity in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon and Syria, where he also sang some songs in the Armenian language and in Eastern Europe and Latin America. He had some commercial success in Quebec, Canada's predominantly francophone province. Marc Aryan visited Turkey where his parents originated from. His success was huge after his release of the oriental-themed "Istanbul", one of his best-known hits that became an instant classic in Turkey. He also released a number of re-arrangements of his biggest hits in the Turkish language, following the example of famous European artists who had done the same as Salvatore Adamo, Johnny Hallyday, Sacha Distel, Enrico Macias, and Peppino di Capri. Turkish language versions in his album Istanbul'da include 9 songs including "Yalancisin", "Dünya Dönüyor", "Kalbin Yok Mu?" and others. The Turkish lyrics were mostly written by Fecri Ebcioglu.

Autograph letter in German signed by the painter Franz Marc to his mother Sophie Marc (née Maurice); two pages in black ink. Trace of horizontal and vertical fold. Unpublished letter. Marc's wartime correspondence with his wife Maria has been published, with only a few letters to his mother (Franz Marc, Briefe, Aufzeichnungen und Aphorismen, Berlin, Paul Cassirer, 1920). Lengthy unpublished letter from Franz Marc to his mother during the First World War, written a few months before his death in Verdun. In the horror of the conflict, the future martyr of German expressionism recalls childhood images and tells horse stories from the front. Stationed on the Alsace front, the famed animal painter recounts a hilarious wild boar hunt improvised during a horseback ride, reminding him of an illustrated childhood tale: The Three Jovial Hunstmen by Randolph Caldecott (1880). Franz Marc reveals here an inspiration for his famous horses, which gave their name to the "Blaue Reiter" movement created in 1911 with Wassily Kandinsky. The horses in Caldecott's Huntsmen resemble Franz Marc's paintings from 1905-1910. This anecdote is also related to "hunting horses" sketched on the front, and a postcard sketch of the same "Jagende Pferde" sent to the poet Else Laske-Schüler in September 1915. The letter gives a glimpse of Franz Marc's daily life on the front. By a cruel irony of fate, he fought in the native region of his mother Sophie Marc née Maurice, born in 1847 in the Alsatian village of Guebwiller. When war broke out in August 1914, he joined the army hoping for a renewal of Europe like many fellow artists and intellectuals. Due to the circumstances of the war, the painter wrote his letter in German and not in French, as he was accustomed to do in his correspondence with his mother. His mother's influence was decisive in his aesthetic and spiritual approach: Marc's tireless quest for "purity" inherited from his Calvinist upbringing eventually led him to abstraction, already present in his sketches as he wrote this letter. He gives news of a future promotion, thanks his mother for sending him food and fills the page with the story of his miraculous hunt: "I have one more amusing story to tell: as I was riding out at dawn (before breakfast), I suddenly noticed a young boar (a wild boar) beside me in a ditch. I immediately called my fellow riders; he was surrounded - I already felt sorry for the poor animal, but the pity came too late! - Two of them jumped in, one grabbed him by the ears, the other poked him and the roast for the steward's table was retrieved. A most comical scene ensued: We ordered the youngest [soldier] to go home with the boar and got him on horseback; but no sooner did the horse feel the boar on his back (horses are very afraid of boars) than he reared up and threw the rider and the pig into a great arc. Fortunately, nothing happened and the embarrassed rider had to walk the boar back, then the horse really reared up as soon as he was approached. A real amateur rider! I was thinking of Dad's old English picture book: the jovial huntsman!" With this light-hearted anecdote, the painter reveals a source of inspiration still unknown to critics and historians. The Three Jovial Huntsmen certainly influenced the young Franz Marc, whose own horses painted in the 1910s (including the Weidende Pferde I, Lenbachhaus, Munich) are unmistakably marked by Caldecott's British style. In the following years, he added to this subject his kaleidoscopic touch and his emblematic blue, red and yellow colors charged with spiritual symbolism. Franz Marc also painted blue wild boars in 1913 (Museum Ludwig, Cologne). The story of this hunt is also completely new, since he asked his mother to tell it to his wife Maria to avoid writing a second letter "es ist lang: welch, sowas zweimal erzählen" (it's long: to tell the same thing twice). Large 4to. 3¼ pp. on bifolium. Stamped letterhead, ruled paper. Fine letter to Hugo Ball (1886-1927), who was working then as a dramaturg at the Munich Kammerspiele. Marc refuses to realize a theatre project under their current circumstances: "I would rather wait until we can really create something new, with our own ensemble and with perfect freedom of movement. Otherwise, nothing solid comes to pass. Then we would have to engage Kokoschka, Kandinsky, Klee, and Macke, and as musicians we must get the Schoenberg circle (Schoenberg, Webern, Berg and others) [...]". - Furthermore, Marc mentions the Russian painter Vladimir Georgievitsch Bechteev (1878-1971), a member of the Neue Künstlervereinigung München ("Munich New Artist's Association"), who was friendly with the "Blaue Reiter" ("Blue Rider"). Bechteev was involved in the theatre project discussed by Hugo Ball, which fell apart, as did other plans with members of the "Blue Rider". Very Good English Original theater program signed 'Marcel Marceau' to a person named Julien. Demy 8vo. (22 x 15 cm). In English. [30] p., fully advertisements. Marceau's program: "Week of Sunday, May 4, 1958. Matinee Saturday, May 10. Ronald A. Wilford Associates presents Marcel Marceau and hiss partners Gilles Segal and Pierre Verry. The program will consist of pantomimes selected from the following repertoire[.]". Notes on the last pages. Marceau was a French actor and mime artist most famous for his stage persona as "Bip the Clown". He referred to mime as the "art of silence" and he performed professionally worldwide for over 60 years. As a youth, he lived in hiding and worked with the French Resistance during most of World War II, giving his first major performance to 3,000 troops after the liberation of Paris in August 1944. Following the war, he studied dramatic art and mime in Paris.

She expresses her belief that there would be no reason for sorrow in the world without happiness, hopes he and his family have settled in Presinge, and advises de la Rive not to interfere with the affairs of the Lausanne villa Denanton, owned by her brother William Haldimand (1784-1862), the director of the Bank of England, who wishes them to stay as long as they need for Marie's full recovery: "Je vous félicite du fond de mon coeur mon cher Eugène de ce que vos angoisses soient passées, et que vous n'avez plus qu'à rendre grace à ce bon Dieu qui à sauvé votre enfant chérie, je partage votre reconnaissance et votre bonheur. L'on dit dans le monde qu'il n'y a point de bonheur sans entrave, moi je suis partie à dire il n'y a point de malheur sans jouissance [...] Je languis de vous savoir tous bien établis à Presinge, mais il ne faut rien hâter. Lobgedicht auf Kardinal Scipione Borghese (1734-82), der sich als einer der engsten Mitarbeiter von Papst Clemens XIII. in den letzten Jahren seines Pontifikats vehement für die Jesuiten einsetzte. Diese Position änderte er jedoch schnell unter dem Pontifikat von Clemens XIV., der schließlich die Gesellschaft Jesu 1773 auflöste. Auf dem Umschlag wohl fälschlich Giuseppe Marcheselli zugeschrieben. - Beiliegend ein eh. Sonett mit U. desselben an Luigi Parisi in Ferrara, datiert Comacchio, 22. X. 1773 (1 S. auf Doppelblatt, 4to, mit eh Adresse verso). Auf dem Gegenblatt eine anonyme Notiz, die von einem Zusamentreffen mit Marcheselli am 13. Oktober 1773 in Comacchio berichtet und erklärt, dass das Sonett auf den heftigen Sturm, der zu diesem Zeitpunkt die Stadt heimsuchte, Bezug nehme: "Ai 13. di ottobre del 1773 fui in Comacchio, e mi venne à trovar due volte in casa il Signore Marcheselli. Non mi ci trovó mai; la terza volta ni incontró appena rescito di casa in compagnia di alcuni altri [...] in qual giorno era un vento terribile, che non si potea star fermo per istrada. Oblong 12mo. 2 pp. Explaining to an unnamed recipient that she could not visit her because of "most painful" sciatica, lamenting that she will be unable to attend an event due to scheduling conflicts: "Que vous êtes bonne de penser à moi. Je serais allée vous voir depuis longtemps si une sciatique, des plus douloureuses, ne m'avait pas empêché de sortir. Dès que le mauvais temps ne me tiendra plus prisonnière, j'irai vous embrasser et vous remercier de votre gracieuseté. Mais, hélàs ! je ne puis profiter de votre billet, car je reçois les 1iers et 3ièmes dimanches chez moi. Quelle contrariété [...]". - Following a brief and moderately successful career in opera and recital, Mathilde Marchesi turned to teaching in 1849. She taught at the Cologne and Vienna conservatories before she opened her own school on Rue Jouffroy-d'Abbans in Paris in 1881. Her most famous student is undoubtedly Nellie Melba, but she also trained such important singers as Emma Calvé, Frances Alda, Ellen Gulbranson, Selma Kurz, and Emma Eames. - With traces of former mounting touching the text (no loss to text).

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Mit ergebenstem Gruß [...]". - A representative of the Art Nouveau and Art Déco style, Marcuse's best-known works are the 1926 Carl Hagenbeck monument in Hamburg-Stellingen and his 37 sculptures of prisoners of war in German camps during the First World War. He is also remembered for his porcelain figurines. - Small creases near corners; traces of a postmark. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
