The Bonefish Brigade
1922. First separate edition reprinted from Izaak Walton League Monthly. Frontispiece photographic portrait of the author holding his hat his rod and his bonefish illustrated by Bessie Bethal Crank. vi 18 pp. 1 vols. 12mo. Printed grey wrappers printed in green and red "Christmas Greetings" upper left and a candle lower right. Fine copy with ink note across front cover "With the best of good wishes for the best of good fishes Mr & Mrs. Will. H. Dilg". Custom blue half morocco dropbox. First separate edition reprinted from Izaak Walton League Monthly. Frontispiece photographic portrait of the author holding his hat his rod and his bonefish illustrated by Bessie Bethal Crank. vi 18 pp. 1 vols. 12mo. RARE ZANE GREY PAMPHLET. Privately printed Christmas greeting from Zane Grey recounting how he and his brother came to fish at Long Key and many of the characters he encountered.

The book was issued in a very small edition reprinting an article first published in the Izaak Walton League Monthly. William Dilg was a friend and correspondent of Zane Grey who founded the Izaak Walton League in 1922 as a conservation and angling group. Within the space of four years and with the support of Zane Grey Emerson Hough Stewart Edward White and other writers Dilg had built it into an influential nationwide organization with more than 200000 members and some 2500 local chapters. In 1926 DIlg was ousted as president of the league amid some controversy. The Forest and Stream issue for June 1926 reports on the controversy and bears the headline "ZANE GREY Declares for WILL H. DILG" and includes an open letter from Grey stating that he had resigned from the League and giving his reasons for a call to resist the commercial interests that displaced Dilg who served as League president and as editor of the monthly Magazine.

A four-page Typed Letter signed Bill" from Dilg to Zane Grey dated 2 August 1926 restates Dilg's complaint about the actions of the "Junta" and proposes a plan for action by Grey in support of Dilg and the interests of the league's members. The organization Dilg founded still exists and pursues conservation initiatives.

The Bonefish Brigade is RARE and the present copy is inscribed by the editor who founded the Izaak Walton League and commissioned the piece with a notable letter pleading for Grey's support.
