The Home Team Fathers Sons & Hockey
Toronto: Viking 1995. Roy Macgregor examines how the dynamic between fathers and sons have shaped the lives of many of the best-known names in hockey - as well as those whose stories should be better known. Here are personal tales of Wayne Gretzsky Mark Messier Paul Coffey and Marty McSorley told as the four NHL stars take their fathers on a hockey tour of Europe. Here are the memories of hockey's grand families: Gordie Mark and Travis Howe; Bill Kevin and Gord Dinseen; MurrayKen and Michael Dryden. Here is Brett Hull's story of the famous father who was not there etc. The Home Team is about more than famous names. It is the story of a minor league coach and his house league son. And it is the rivetting story of Brad Hornung the Regina junior star whose neck was broken in a game in 1987 and of Troy Edwards who delivered the check that changed their lives and the lives of their families forever. The book is about hockey - a book for all the fathers and sons in Canada. Photo section supplied. Photo illustrated price-intact dust jacket. Dust jacket shows creasing to inside flaps. An extremely clean bright copy. ISBN: 0-670-85881-1. First Edition Second Printing. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. REMEMBERING THE ROCKET: A CELEBRATION.
Toronto: Stoddart 1998. 128 pp 7 3/4" H. B&w and colour photographs. "He has been called the 'greatest goal scorer in professional hockey history' not least for his astonishing feat of notching 50 goals in 50 games. Yet that alone hardly explains his legend. Maurice Richard not only ushered in hockey's modern era with his prolific scoring touch and fiery play he also came to symbolize the hopes and fears of an entire culture. Quebec in the 1940s and '50s wanted a hero and they found one in Richard - a fierce competitor a skilful artist and a proud warrior whose famous temper triggered one of the darkest events in Canadian sporting history - the Montreal riot of 1955. This look back at the greatest player to ever don the red white and blue includes some of the finest sportswriters of the era documenting Richard the hero and Richard the villain Richard the doting family man and Richard the aging hockey legend. Passionate about everything in life Richard raised the stakes for all of us who understand that hockey has always been more than just a game." Large gift insciption on free front endpaper; previous owner's name place and date on half-title page; 5" line indentation on rear board. Toronto: Stoddart Publishing. Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. 2001. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 0773733116 . Colour & b/w photos. 120 pages. Excellent condition. Hardcover is as new clean & unmarked. Jacket has light scuffing and slight edgewear. Review: "MacInnis Does it Again The "Remembering." series transcends normal biography by showcasing top quality journalist's recollections with statistics and insights into the player and their game. Remembering the Golden Jet is no different. From Bobby Hull's early days playing minor hockey to his watershed defection from the NHL to play for Winnipeg a move that would rock the hockey world and force the league to re-evaluate it's salary policy forever. For Blackhawks fans this book charts the progress of a player who was feared by goalies everywhere for his blistering slapshot. I have read every Bobby Hull book out there and nothing comes close in it's insights in it's recognition of Hull as a true Legend of the game as this beautifully designed book. I can't recommend it highly enough. " 400 ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . Stoddart Publishing hardcover

MacInnis Joe. Introduction by Walter Cronkite.
THE BREADALBANE ADVENTURE.
Montreal: Optimum 1982. 171 pp large 8vo 9 1/4" H. B&w photographs map. "In 1975 Joe MacInnis pioneer in the great frontier of the Arctic Ocean discovered a new challenge. Through an old Arctic loner and a reclusive English scholar he learned of a sailing vessel locked for 127 years beneath the polar ice. The 'Breadalbane' was one of many ships dispatched by the British Admiralty to find Sir John Franklin the explorer and the 129 crewmen aboard the 'Erebus' and the 'Terror'. Like many before them the ships had sought the fabled Northwest Passage to the riches of the Orient. Neither ship nor crewmen were ever found. On its ill-fated supply run the 'Breadalbane' had stopped at Beechey Island and then became caught in the ice. The ice lifted the craft from the water and crushed its hull but gave the crew time to scramble to safety before opening briefly to swallow its prize. Since 1853 the 'Breadalbane' has stood upright on the ocean floor unseen by human eyes. Joe MacInnis spent three grueling years searching for the lost ghost ship battling fierce Arctic winds the lethal polar waters and icebergs weighing up to a million tons. Here he takes us on his unique quest right up to the electrifying moment when he finds the ship largely intact in the sub-zero waters." Minor wrinkling at bottom of spine. MacKay George Henry
Shooting Journal of George Henry Mackay 1865-1922. Edited by John C. Phillips with a four page Introduction by him.
Cambridge Massachusetts: Privately Printed for John C. Phillips by The Cosmos Press 1929. First Edition. One of 300 copies. Portrait frontispiece plates from photographs. 373 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Original cloth-backed marbled boards. Fine. First Edition. One of 300 copies. Portrait frontispiece plates from photographs. 373 pp. 1 vols. 8vo. One of the interesting and uncommon privately printed volumes edited by John C. Phillips. George Mackay born 1843 worked with his father in the India trade and went round the Horn several times. He was an avid sportsman in Massachusetts and along the eastern seaboard of America. He spent portions of each year on Nantucket - he married Maria Starbuck - and on West Island Rhode Island. In later life Mackay became very active in efforts to preserve breeding colonies of birds when the feather craze threatened them with extinction. Mackay effectively abandoned shooting after 1897 then resumed the journal in 1921-2. His journal serves as a long-running observation of natural conditions on Nantucket and West Island and a record of sport in a vanished era. Biscotti p. 342 Privately Printed for John C. Phillips by The Cosmos Press unknown
