‎1970. "Tennessee" with a 9 word holograph post script in blue ink on pictorial The Royal Orleans Royal and St. Louis Streets New Orleans Louisiana 70140 letterhead August 7 1970. 5 1/4" x 6 1/2"; 4 pages on biofold sheet. Very good. To Audrey Wood; Williams' longtime agent: In part: "Frank Fontis my gardener read me the following cablegram.'Darling Tenn marvelous news. Lindsay Anderson and Paul Scofield both very interested in play. They want to hold scripts and are meeting in London next week.' I think it is a promising new development and we should hold our American horses until Scofield and Anderson have met and come to some conclusion." After detailing his search for a lost 'agreement.' he continues: 'Hayes.also asked me to send him one-act plays and I'm getting a couple typed up to submit to him.I carry a cholesterol diet list to all restaurants now and an almost fanatical in my adherence to it." After signing Williams adds a handwritten post script: 'Will be in Key West till end of August." Williams has also crossed out a partial paragraph about monthly statements on the first page and has made a few handwritten corrections throughout. The play was "Camino Real." ‎Typescript: The Rose Tattoo A Play in Three Parts‎

‎1950. Softcover. Near Fine. Carbon typescript. Quarto. 75pp. but missing final two pages. Sheets bradbound in the blue "Liebling-Wood" folder of Williams's agent Audrey Wood. The light blue wrappers a bit worn with a couple tears and the original brads replaced very good plus. It's labeled "Third draft Europe September 1950" on the first sheet along with a pencil notation that reads "not final draft." This copy also includes the epigraph from the poem "Anabasis" on the first sheet that was used intermittently by Williams throughout his many draft. The Rose Tattoo is Williams's first full-length comedy which he called his "love-play to the world." It concerns a Sicilian widow from the Gulf Coast and her attempts to protect her attractive young daughter while dealing with her own renewed passions. This draft was completed after learning that Elia Kazan had passed on directing the play to do a film with Arthur Miller a snub that greatly disheartened Williams. Nevertheless the play which debuted on Broadway in early 1951 won the Tony Awards for best play as well as best actor and best actress awards for Eli Wallach and Maureen Stapleton. A 1955 film version was also a success starring Burt Lancaster and Anna Magnani who was won the Oscar for best actress. unknown books‎

‎Williams Tennessee and Donald Windham‎

‎You Touched Me!; a romantic comedy in three acts; suggested by a short story of the same name by D.H. Lawrence‎

‎New York/Los Angeles: Samuel French. Good. c.1947 1942. Unstated edition. Softcover. light handling wear a little browning at spine and some dampstaining which for some weird reason has affected only the four photographic plates and nothing else. 4 B&W photographs An early play by Williams -- the next-to-last of his so-called "apprentice plays" -- written in collaboration with his longtime friend Donald Windham. Originally written in 1942 it wasn't staged on Broadway until the Fall of 1945 an event probably made possible by the success of "The Glass Menagerie" which had opened that Spring and was still running. It was the last Broadway appearance of Montgomery Clift before he decamped permanently for Hollywood; he appears in all four of the photos that illustrate this volume albeit at a great distance in one of them. . The show was canceled after only 29 performances. This Playbill is signed on the cast page by Tennessee Williams and actress Estelle Parsons who was nominated for a Tony Award. This was the shortest run of any Tennessee Williams play to have appeared on Broadway thus accounting for this signed Playbill's extreme rarity. ‎Signed Playbill from the premier performance of "Clothes for a Summer Hotel‎

‎New York 1980. pamphlet. Exceedingly rare signed Playbill for the premier performance of "Clothes for a Summer Hotel" at The Cort Theatre March 26 1980 which also happened to be Williams 69th birthday. Near fine condition.<br/><br/> The play was about the relationship between F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda. A critical and commercial failure it was Williams' last play to debut on Broadway during his lifetime and closed after 14 performances. Williams has signed in full on the cast page directly beneath the show's title as has its star Geraldine Page. According to The New York Times "Tennessee Williams took the failure of Hotel very personally - vowing never to stage an opening night for one of his plays on Broadway ever again." Known for his bouts with mood swings and depression it is unlikely that he signed more than a handful of this Playbill edition.<br/><br/> unknown books‎
