br. Giovanni Boccaccio, il grande narratore che col suo Decamerone ha segnato in modo indelebile la storia della letteratura, è stato spesso additato come osceno, licenzioso, perfino immorale. Ma qual è veramente la sua visione della donna, protagonista ricorrente nella produzione del poeta di Certaldo? Partendo da un'analisi della società medievale toscana, l'autrice prende in esame in particolare l'Elegia di Madonna Fiammetta, il Corbaccio e lo stesso Decamerone, per mostrare differenze e analogie tra le figure femminili lì presenti. Ripercorrendo la biografia di Boccaccio, emerge un'evoluzione complessa nel suo rapporto con la donna, in cui ammirazione e rispetto si alternano talvolta a punte di radicale misoginia.

Giovanni Boccaccio. Tra letteratura «cortese» e letteratura «popolare»
La critica letteraria italiana, a proposito del "Decameron" di Boccaccio, si è polarizzata intorno a due opposte posizioni. Da un lato, quella di Vittore Branca, che ha rinvenuto nell'opera l'«epopea dei mercatanti». Dall'altro, quella di Michelangelo Picone, che ha individuato in essa la riproposizione del modello dantesco, improntato all'esaltazione dei valori cortesi e cavallereschi. In mezzo, l'interpretazione di Giuseppe Petronio, che, superando la «logomachia definitoria», ha cercato di cogliere i veri connotati del «realismo» che domina il Certaldese e il suo capolavoro, strettamente legato al suo tempo, visto nella complessità che lo caratterizza, al di là di ogni schematismo. Il presente volume si propone di proseguire lungo questa linea contrassegnata dall'analisi articolata dei fenomeni letterari, colti nel loro rapporto con i «contesti», nell'unità inscindibile tra «forma» e «contenuto», che sta alla base delle grandi opere, arricchendo il metodo critico specifico della disciplina con l'apporto vivificante di altre (antropologia, sociologia, psicanalisi). Due volumi legati in tre di cm. 19, pp. xvi, 532; viii, 274. Bel ritratto inciso dell'autore all'antiporta del primo volume. Leg. strettamente coeva in carta leggera azzurra. Piccole mancanze ai dorsi, peraltro esemplare genuino e ben conservato. Edizione originale (ed unica?) di quest'opera composta sull'esempio di Boccaccio. Contiene però solo 94 novelle in quanto la giornata decima non fu compiuta dall'autore. La novella quarantasettesima è scritta con la mancanza delle cinque lettere dell'alfabeto; nella quarantottesima i nomi propri delle persone nominatevi fanno equivoco senso con la narrazione. Cfr. Boccaccio e Napoli. Nuovi materiali per la storia culturale di Napoli nel Trecento
Questo libro s'inserisce in un programma di ricerca triennale che è durato dal 2011 al 2013 e si è ispirato all'idea che si potesse studiare un "Boccaccio angioino". Sotto questo titolo si è infatti iniziata la serie di attività scientifiche che, prendendo spinta dalla Seconda Università di Napoli, hanno messo insieme i colleghi di tutti gli Atenei pubblici campani, dall'Università "Federico II" a "L'Orientale" fino all'Università di Salerno con la sua sede di Fisciano. Atenei che hanno stretto una convenzione finalizzata a promuovere e sostenere gli studi dedicati alla cultura meridionale del s. XIV e in particolare a quella più direttamente collegata alla presenza di Giovanni Boccaccio nella capitale del Regno, così da inserire l'autore di origine toscana dentro il più ampio contesto culturale, storico, politico e artistico del complesso mondo angioino del Trecento. In vista delle celebrazioni per il VII Centenario della nascita (1313-2013), nel 2011 sono stati organizzati un Seminario e un Convegno internazionale, al quale hanno partecipato studiosi provenienti da settori diversi: dalla storia della letteratura, dalla linguistica e dalla filologia fino alla storia dell'arte, della musica e della scienza. I primi risultati sono stati pubblicati a Bruxelles, presso Peter Lang, con il titolo di "Boccaccio angioino". Da quella prima esperienza è emerso un gruppo di ricerca che ha poi animato le celebrazioni del 2013, i cui lavori si pubblicano adesso sotto il titolo di "Boccaccio e Napoli".

Il volume che qui si presenta nasce dal convegno boccacciano tenutosi a Parma il 13-14 marzo 2014 con il sostegno dell'Ente nazionale Giovanni Boccaccio, a ideale chiusura dell'anno boccacciano 2013, che ha visto la partecipazione di studiosi provenienti da numerose università. La posizione non particolarmente invidiabile dell'ultimo arrivato permette però uno sguardo lungo dal quale risultano confermate le valutazioni e le aspettative dei curatori, che avevano individuato nel tema "Boccaccio in versi" una lacuna per così dire "strutturale" della bibliografia. Rispetto alle iniziative precedenti il convegno si caratterizza dunque per una restrizione dell'oggetto, che corrisponde ad una scelta di campo precisa e mira a colmare, almeno in parte, la suddetta lacuna. ill. Questa monografia ha come oggetto di analisi la presenza del Decameron nel Novecento e nel secondo Ottocento. Il proposito è quello di indagare il ruolo del capolavoro di Boccaccio, come pure la funzione di quello che, a buon diritto, può essere chiamato il "personaggio Boccaccio", lungo il XX secolo, e sino ai nostri giorni. Per far ciò Marco Bardini esplora e discute molte di quelle opere d'invenzione (non soltanto letterarie, ma altresì filmiche, teatrali e musicali, in prima battuta; nonché i prodotti delle industrie culturali, sino alle prassi della controcultura e delle subculture, inclusi gli oggetti e le merci) che al Certaldese e alla sua opera maggiore si rifanno, o dichiarano, più o meno apertamente, di collegarsi. Il volume si apre con un repertorio di trecento schede. Esso registra un copioso numero di riscritture "boccacciane", disposte in ordine cronologico dal 1849 a oggi. Sorta di praticabile galleria d'ingresso, l'archivio fornisce una prima descrizione del selezionato materiale di cui questa monografia intende trattare. Quindi, nella sezione centrale del libro si ragiona di tali riscritture - e di molto altro - secondo un'ottica tematico-culturale che prevede l'esame dei testi. E a conclusione, l'ultima parte raduna, oltre alle bibliografie, un'articolata serie di indici (dei nomi, delle novelle, dei personaggi, dei titoli, dei luoghi), che intendono dotare il lettore di un'ulteriore e più agevole porta di accesso alla monografia stessa.
