ill., br. Il volume vuole dimostrare che Boccaccio senza la Francia - una Francia in primo luogo "napoletana e "angioina"- non sarebbe Boccaccio, quello che ci è noto. I motivi che percorrono opera e poetica boccacciana sarebbero senz'altro del tutto diversi. Ma la Francia senza Boccaccio, almeno la sua letteratura, avrebbe anch'essa assunto una fisionomia differente. Ciò che viene dapprima in mente, ovviamente, riguarda il genere della novella, che avrebbe preso tutt'altro corso, la novella così come Boccaccio la "inventa" nel "Decameron" , dove ne elabora la prassi teorica.

Il volume si sofferma su alcuni aspetti della figura e della cultura di Boccaccio: la sua vicenda biografica, il milieu religioso angioino e fiorentino, la produzione letteraria, con particolare attenzione al Decameron. L’analisi privilegia diversi motivi e tematiche utili all’esplorazione del mondo boccacciano: la povertà, che mostra una consapevole adesione a un ideale umanistico e segna momenti e traversie della vita del letterato; la satira antifratesca, il riuso della letteratura religiosa nel Decameron; la geografia del capolavoro, con l’analisi di luoghi e spazi in grado di orientarne l’esegesi. Chiudono il volume tre letture di novelle scelte tra la Quarta e la Quinta giornata che mettono in luce la maestria di Boccaccio nel combinare e reinterpretare i materiali delle diverse tradizioni. Volume I is lacking the portrait of Boccaccio but all other plates are correct. Illustrated by Gravelot Eisen Cochin the Younger and Boucher reduced and engraved by Vidal. The imprint is false printed in Paris. Giovanni Boccaccio In French Jean Bocace was an Italian author poet and correspondent of Petrach. Boccaccio wrote a number of notable works including the Decameron and On Famous Women. As a poet who wrote in the Italian vernacular Boccaccio is particularly noted for his realistic dialogue which differed from his contemporaries. Condition: In paper covered boards. Externally sound with some wear to spines and bumping to extremities. Spines browned. Ink signature to front pastedown of volume I. Internally generally firmly bound.
