‎Em Lisboa, por Manoel de Lyra, anno de 1584. Petit in-8 de [12]-280 feuillets, plein vélin , dos à nerfs orné de fleurons en noir, garde de papier marbré (reliure fin XIX e).‎

‎Orné d'une vignette de titre et la marque de l'imprimeur à pleine page. Très rare deuxième édition parue quatre ans après la mort du poète, elle est d'une importance capitale pour l'histoire bibliographique des Lusiades, bien qu'ayant été altérée par la censure de l'Inquisition. Elle est publiée douze après la première édition. Poème épique en dix chants, Les Lusiades restituent le voyage de Vasco de Gama aux Indes. Recréant l'épopée classique à partir de l'Odyssée d'Homère et de L'Enéide de Virgile, Luis de Camões (vers 1525- 1580) intègre au récit les figures des dieux dont les intrigues ponctuent le voyage, engendrant des difficultés (tempêtes, conflits, etc.) dont les Portugais viennent à bout. Le poème multiplie aussi les notes réalistes sur la vie maritime (découverte du scorbut), les phénomènes naturels, les "peuples nouveaux", etc. L'épopée, qui attribue une mission quasi divine au peuple portugais, son héros, est aussi une oeuvre vécue. Camões avait en effet un avantage sur les poètes sédentaires de la Renaissance: il avait vu ce qu'il décrivait, même s'il l'embellissait. Composé sur près de vingt-cinq ans par le poète-soldat qui avait suivi les périples des navigateurs portugais et avait vécu bien des aventures au Maroc, à Goa, à Macao et au Mozambique, ce grand poème publié à Lisbonne un an après la bataille de Lépante offrait à la littérature du Portugal un immense chef-d'oeuvre composé par "un des plus grands lyriques de la littérature mondiale (...) un merveilleux musicien de la nature" (Michel Mourre). Camões est au Portugal ce que Cervantès est à l'Espagne ou Shakespeare à l'Angleterre.De la bibliothèque de Oscar Dusendschön qui a apposé son nom au dos du titre, daté de "Chambésy ano 1937" ou il possédait un vaste domaine (La Coudira). Brésilien d’origine allemande, président de la chambre de commerce suisse-brésilienne de 1944 à 1958, il possédait une entreprise de caoutchouc à Manaus. Après son décès son fils légua environ 400 objets au Musée d'Ethnographie de Genève, où il avait pris sa retraite.
