Schibeci Stefania
Jean Cocteau teorico del cinema
br.

Cocteau racchiude in sé la meraviglia proteiforme dell'artista totale: poeta, saggista, drammaturgo, sceneggiatore, disegnatore, librettista, regista cinematografico, pubblicitario, decoratore, imitatore, talent scout e attore...

Cocteau Jean & Jean Tronquet
Festival du Film Maudit. Biarritz 29 Juillet-5 Août 1949

Some extremely minor toning to a few pages. Oblong 8vo. Original tie-bound wrpps. very minor dust-staining. Paris Editions Mazarine 1949. The term 'film maudit' "cursed film" was coined for the legendary 1949 Festival du Film Maudit held in Biarritz and organized by a group of writers filmmakers and critics united under the label "Nouvelle Critique". A jury led by Jean Cocteau curated and honored a group of films thought of as overlooked at the time. The term was also applied to a number of deliberately shocking and outré films at the festival. In writing about the festival Cocteau said "The time has come to honor the masterpieces of film art which have been buried alive and to sound the alarm. Cinema must free itself from slavery just like the many courageous people who are currently striving to achieve their freedom. Art which is inaccessible to young people will never be art." The festival had long-lasting effects on the intellectual appreciation of film and helped created the phenomenon of French cinephilia.
