Due volumi in 8°, brossure originali conservate e racchiuse in legatura recente in mezza tela con unghie, piatti in carta decorata, titoli al tassello in pelle ai dorsi, occhielli, frontespizi, dedicatoria (la famosa dedica ad Arturo Farinelli "Pellegrino di tutte le poesie.."), (8) 539 (1) pp., (8) 492 pp.. Importante e rara edizione originale di quest'opera emblematica di cultura letteraria, che raccoglie articoli, recensioni, aneddoti biografici e letterari, all'interno del più vasto e prolifico panorama intellettuale del primo Novecento, di cui l'autore siciliano fù una figura di spicco. Profondo conoscitore di lingue e letterature straniere, collaborò a numerose riviste e giornali, e si distinse sia nell’ambiente accademico (fu docente di letteratura tedesca e di estetica a Torino, a Roma e a Milano) sia in quello della cultura militante, dove partecipò vivamente al moto di rinnovamento culturale che prese il nome dal Leonardo e dalla Voce, fondando il giornale «Hermes» (1904), e collaborando alla Stampa ed al Corriere della Sera. Da questo suo lavoro emerge chiaramente tutta la brillantezza critica dell'autore siciliano, capace di ricostruire con grande efficacia i caratteri degli scrittori esaminati, ma soprattutto capace di cogliere ed evidenziare con grande sensibilità le tematiche portanti delle loro opere. In questo senso, basti ricordare che fu proprio Borgese, dalle colonne del quotidiano «La Stampa», a coniare quell'espressione fortunata di poesia "crepuscolare" con la quale ancora oggi designiamo i versi di poeti come Gozzano e Corazzini, tanto per citare i due nomi più illustri di tale tendenza lirica. In ottimo stato di conservazione. Prima importante e rara edizione.
