br. Remy de Gourmont, definito da Apollinaire "Herpes Trismegisto" a causa di un lupus che lo aveva sfigurato costringendolo a un isolamento forzato, è una di quelle figure atipiche di cui è costellato il firmamento letterario francese a cavallo tra Ottocento e Novecento. Amico di Mallarmé, Huysmans, Mirbeau, Jarry, con il quale condivise l'esperienza della rivista "L'Ymagier", fondò con Alfred Vallette il "Mercure de France"". Nel primo dei tre testi qui presentati, Dante, Beatrice e la poesia amorosa, uscito nel 1908, Gourmont passa in rassegna alcune espressioni della lirica medievale, soffermandosi in particolare sul rapporto tra l'autore della Commedia e Beatrice. Quest'ultima non viene considerata una donna in carne e ossa ma rappresenta l'archetipo della donna angelicata, con tratti che ne fanno una «statua aureolata», a cui idealmente viene contrapposta l'immagine di Francesca che, nonostante si trovi come ombra che vaga «per l'aere maligno» con il suo Paolo, ancora rimpiange «il tempo de' dolci sospiri». Viene qui raccolto in volume anche il saggio Dante, Beatrice e Platone del 1883, dove si possono cogliere sottili differenze interpretative rispetto al primo scritto. Il libro si chiude con Le donne e il linguaggio del 1902 in cui Gourmont, senza rinunciare ad alcuni tipici pregiudizi dell'epoca, riconosce alla donna un ruolo primario nello sviluppo linguistico umano.

The project whose research led to the publication of Cave Life of Oklahoma and Arkansas began in the 1970s as a study of Ozark cavefish and expanded to encompass two states and involve a number of research topics and collaborators. The authors and their team donned snorkeling gear cave suits and climbing harnesses and descended into caves in Oklahoma and Arkansas to study inventory and photograph this hidden world. The result is a comprehensive checklist of the region's cave fauna complete with descriptions of these rare animals' distribution and ecological niches. The cast of characters ranges from familiar and charismatic species such as cave crayfish and gray bats to rare and bizarre fauna such as blind salamanders and cave dung beetles. More than 175 full-color illustrations include stunning never-before-seen photographs from the cameras of Dave Bunnel Tim Ernst and Dant B. Fenolio among others of cave animals�even some newly discovered species. Desiderio, corporeità e linguaggio si intrecciano nell'opera di Dante e di due grandi voci del secondo Novecento, Pier Paolo Pasolini ed Elsa Morante. br. Dante è al centro degli interessi di Gramsci fin dall'inizio della scrittura dei Quaderni del carcere. La Commedia è uno dei libri richiesti subito dopo l'arresto; è dantesco uno degli «argomenti principali»; Dante è spesso associato a Machiavelli come rappresentante della corrente laica della letteratura italiana; la penultima nota è una riflessione sulla «quistione della lingua» a partire dal De vulgari. Ma all'interno dell'opera di Gramsci è possibile individuare un nucleo più definito che ruota attorno al canto decimo dell'Inferno e a Cavalcante Cavalcanti, padre di Guido, che prende avvio da uno scritto del 1918 e si concretizza in una sezione del Quaderno IV e in un gruppo di lettere. In tutte queste pagine - che qui si raccolgono - Gramsci usa Dante per riflettere su alcuni dei temi fondamentali dei Quaderni: il rapporto tra poesia e struttura, il ruolo degli intellettuali, la "popolarità" della letteratura italiana.

Che non è solo il messaggio di un cristiano con delle certezze in un mondo senza più certezze di un uomo di fede in un'epoca senza fede; è un messaggio che riusciamo ad ascoltare anche senza fede, anche senza certezze, perché la credenza nell'esistenza di Dio, dell'anima e del libero arbitrio sembri corrispondere a delle funzioni basilari emerse a un certo punto dell'evoluzione umana e non ancora scomparse, funzioni sulle quali anche la "Commedia" si fonda e sulle quali si regge il nostro mondo morale.

br. La filologia è indispensabile per leggere e capire Dante. Ma conoscere i problemi filologici posti da opere come la Commedia, la Vita nova o il De vulgari eloquentia è utile anche per scoprire che cos'è la critica del testo, poiché lo studio del modo in cui quei problemi sono stati affrontati nel corso del tempo dai vari editori consente di ripercorrere tutte le principali questioni metodologiche della filologia moderna applicata a testi latini e volgari. Ed è utile anche per comprendere perché è importante la storia della tradizione: la circolazione manoscritta e a stampa del corpus dantesco (e in particolare della Commedia e delle Rime) costituisce infatti un capitolo fondamentale di storia culturale tra Medioevo ed Età moderna. Il volume esamina complessivamente la tradizione delle opere dantesche, affiancando alla trattazione puntuale dei problemi filologici relativi ai singoli testi la ricostruzione del contesto storico e culturale.
