Though this proposal is controversial Tyson makes a good case for why it should be taken up--and he shows just how high the stakes are. Throughout his narrative Tyson mixes scientific reportage with a nicely rendered travelogue that guides readers across the island while outlining key concepts of island biogeography and conservation biology. Traduction, avec une Préface, des Arguments et des Notes par Benoist-Méchin, 1 vol. in-12 reliure de l'époque demi-maroquin vert, dos à 5 nerfs dorés orné, tête dorée, supra-libris en mors du Château de Vertcoeur, Aux Editions du Sagittaire, Simon Kra, Paris, 1925, 179 pp. Bel exemplaire provenant de la bibliothèque du Comte Philipon, enrichi d'un envoi de Jacques Benoist-Méchin, et de deux lettres autographes signée, la première (en allemand) de Fritz von Unruh à Benoist-Méchin (datée du 20 juillet 1923), dans laquelle il lui recommande un de ses amis romaniste pour la traduction, et évoque également la difficulté des temps présents ("Wir haben durch die Abspannung von jeder Aussenwelt zu leiden. Wann wird der Zustnd des Wahnsinningen in der Welt Enden ?") ; la seconde de Benoist-Méchin (à en-tête de The Universal Service) dans laquelle il évoque l'édition de l'ouvrage. Ecrivain antimilitariste, Fritz von Unruh (1885-1970) s'opposera avec force au nazisme et quittera l'Allemagne dès 1932, pour n'y retourner qu'en 1962.
