Very Good. 175pp. Sextodecimo 17.5 cm Rebound in 3/4 red leather with red cloth over boards a gilt tooled spine and new endpapers and flyleaves. All edges gilt. Bookbinder's stamp on reverse of front free endpaper. Contemporary owner's name at head of title page. Light tidemarks in the top halves of the fore-edge margins of the first sixteen pages largest tidemarks measure 2" tall by just under 1" wide and gradually decrease in size. Publisher's name is within the title page vignette. Colon after "London" on title page. Eckels p. 116-118. The second in Charles Dickens' series of Christmas books. Illustrated by four of the leading illustrators of the day- D. Maclise R. Doyle J. Leech and C. Stansfield. Dickens' story is an attack on selfishness cowardice and cant. Chapman & Hall unknown

It seems likely that Faucit and Dickens would have met: she and her husband Sir Theodore Martin were friends of Thackeray; and Martin was present at the brief reconciliation of Thackeray and Dickens at the Atheneum Club. Thomson Hugh. 8vo full blue cloth elaborately decorated in gilt with 7 tipped in color plates by Hugh Thomson 1/2" tear to top of spine modest darkening to spine former owner touched up tips and spine top and bottom with color. Offsetting to facing page like a border opposite each color plate due to the acidic paper the plates are mounted on. Common to all copies we've seen.
