Contemporary red half morocco by Asprey titles and illustrations to spines in gilt in compartments red cloth sides marbled endpapers edges gilt. Frontispieces vignette title pages printed in red and black 24 colour plates with tissue guards and numerous illustrations in the text. Slight rubbing to sides and extremities scuff to bottom edge of rear board of vol. I; a very good set. First edition thus first impression. The Dickensian reviewed Cecil's edition upon publication noting that "Aldin has very wisely chosen to illustrate the book throughout and although it makes two large volumes no one will regret that considering the wealth of pictures it contains" p. 322. Cecil Aldin was "identified with clever work in colour of character sport and humour" and this work was received as well-suited to Dicken's work Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News Volume 74 1911.
