Despite his lack of formal education Dickens edited a weekly journal for 20 years wrote 15 novels five novellas hundreds of short stories and non-fiction articles lectured and performed extensively was an indefatigable letter writer and campaigned vigorously for children's rights education and other social reforms. The Life of Our Lord is a book Dickens wrote about the life of Jesus Christ for his young children between 1846 and 1849 at about the time that he was writing David Copperfield. The Life of Our Lord was published in 1934 64 years after Dickens' death. A Christian Dickens wrote The Life of Our Lord exclusively for his children to whom he read it aloud every Christmas. He strictly forbade publication of The Life during his own lifetime and begged his sister-in-law Georgina Hogarth to make sure that the Dickens family "would never even hand the manuscript or a copy of it to anyone to take out of the house." His handwritten manuscript was passed down to Georgina Hogarth after Dickens's death in 1870. On her death in 1917 it came into the possession of Sir Henry Fielding Dickens Dickens's last surviving son. The serialized first printing of this work by Dickens ran from March 5 through March 20 1934 concluding some 10 days before Easter that year. The publisher the Dayton Ohio Herald & the Dayton Ohio Sunday Journal has the individual pieces cut from the newsprint and glued on brown paper and then bound in cardstock covers taped spine and then stapled. The title page is emphatic that this is the true first edition: "The Life of Our Lord written by Charles Dickens for His Children 1849 and Kept as a Precious Family Secret for Eighty-Five Years; Original and First Publication in the entire World as it Appeared in THE DAYTON OHIO HERALD AND IN THE DAYTON OHIO SUNDAY JOURNAL March the Fifth to March the Twentieth Inclusive Nineteen Hundred and Thirty-Four." The Cardstock cover is nottled with wrinkled dings chips and corner wear along all; rear tape head has 1/2" square rubbed away with other smaller rubbed sections front & rear. The inner pages are warped by the gluing process no doubt but all eminently readable. Biopredation has left sections of the fore-edge and some corners through p 27 nibbled away through page 12 but does not intrude onto the glued clippings; another 10 pages mid-text-block have more slender examples of biopredation. Two of the clippings are merely laid in such as the reproduction of Dicken's letter to this children and one other.
